Default Low oil pressure?

Just noticed after I replaced the sending unit and installing an LS6 intake. The oil pressure is around 20 at idle and cruising it is around 30-35psi. Is that normal? Or is it too low? A buddy of mine with a 99 Camaro, says it is too low, his is just under 40psi at idle.

Thanks,

Jason

It's not abnormal. It isn't higher than normal but the old rule is 10psi per 1K rpm's...My old camaro at HOT idle would only have like 10-15psi but would jump up to 50 or more once revved a little. 35psi at cruising speeds sounds like enough to me.

My 98 always had low oil pressure then It chunked a rod.

Then I went with a new TSP Pump in the new motor and now my oil P. is back at 40 or 45 at idle and ive seen as much as 80 psi

Check with your mechanic and see what he says.

I don't really have one. The smaller stuff, I do myself. I just saw a write up, it doesn't look that bad to change the pump...but it also said its worth it to do a cam swap at the same time.

It was pretty warm yesterday. When I came off the dyno, my engine temp was running around 230 degrees, thats when we noticed my oil pressure was at 19.

When I first start the car, the pressure shoots right up to 50 psi or so.

Thanks for all the help.
