Default Blackwing installed

Installed the Blackwing yesterday on my 04 Z06. Taking out the airbridge and filer assembly was a breeze. Trying to get the bellows kit over the mouth of the Blackwing was a PIA. Who came up with that idea? The rubber is so hard it was impossible to work with. I tried to soften it up in boiling water but that didn't help. I put a few vertical cuts in the rubber and it fit over tight as a glove. Of course that was after about an hour and half of boiling and stretching on the vise. I also decide to install the high flow coupler. Another PIA. I couldn't get the airbridge to lay flat so I went back to the stock acordian. Much easier to work with and you can start in the front of the car with the Blackwing and work your way forward. Thank goodness I searched on this Forum for tips. They all worked!! Thanks to all who posted.

Went out for a short ride and couldn't tell the difference. In all fairness I installed headers in November and they made such a big SOP difference anything else would ahve to be something major. I am scheduing a Dyno tune for the end of this month with Carolina Auto Masters so I am anxious to see how much I picked up with both. My base HP is 359.7 at the rear wheels.

Also noticed with the battery off for the day my check engine light is gone. It has been on for a month because of the headers. I am sure the tune will cure this.

I noticed a small difference after adding the blackwing. Allow 50 miles or so before you car "learns" the increased airflow and compensates for it. I bet you pick up 10 more ponies. Hard to feel in the "seat of the pants" meter though :-)

I agree. Give it a few hundred miles.

Keep in mind that by the butt-o-meter a Corvette feels frickin' fast or a little frickin faster. Now that I think about it, 10 more hp on top of 350 plus hp can't really feel that much different. Probably the difference noticed between a humid day and a dry day.

I was considering the same installation... Is there any difference between installing the Blackwing on a Coupe instead of a Z06? Any reason it would be less of a PITA on a Coupe?

It's the exact same install. No major issues. If you buy the BW, get the cleaning kit.

I installed the Blackwing on my '04 coupe several months ago. The only confusing thing was the rubber collar/adapter that was attached to the Blackwing. There was no way that the MAF coupler was going to fit the rubber collar/adapter. So, I simply removed the collar/adapter and with a little persuation, slid the MAF coupler onto the Blackwing. The rest of the install was a piece of cake!

That is how you are suppose to install the BW. They really do not give the best instructions for install.

Thanks for this info. So you don't need the Bellows adapter thing?
