Wow, cant beleave Im on a this board and seeing this topic, LOL.
First off, having built and raced mustangs my whole life I was just in the situation of choosing either a used c5/z06 or an 03 cobra. Had our only goal been to go fast, cobra would be sitting beside the supra right now.
Now, if i want to go have some fun on the street, I drive the supra. If I want to pimp on the street, Ill take the vette.
90% of the encounters will happen on the street. If I'm the Mustang owner who blows a vette away off the line, light to light, lets say, I don't need any excuses. I certainly don't care if the vette is more fun in the twisties. If I beat you soundly in a straight line, my car is faster than yours and that's it. If a mustang beats me in a straight line, there's no way that I pull up next to him and say "well let's see what you can do in the twisties". Depreciation matters even less. Remember it's a bottom line world out there. Push, push, push. This ain't no Willoughby!!

Not sure why you quoted me, as I only seen one aspect of my post in yours :p
Depreciation made a big difference for us because if this car turns out to be a troublesome car, we will be looking to sell it and buy something else. The wife really doesnt care about speed, the mustang of hers that we just sold had been babied its whole life. She put it to the floor one time the entire time she had it. Anyway, it sounds from your post that you should have picked up an 03 cobra, unless I am missing something?
I remember when I had only my Vigilante 3500 stall and a few other bolt-ons (conical air filter, DR's, cat back exhaust, etc.) besting new blown Cobras with pulley mods, gears and DR's was no problem at the track. Even thought they out horse powered me by well over 100 RWHP, my 400-500 lb weight advantage made up a lot of ground.
In an earlier post talking about 600 plus RWHP Cobras running mid 10's, I never had anywhere near that much RWHP and still ran some 10.60's in cool (not cold air).
The Mustang rides like a mid 60s truck. Just as most racing happens on the street and you wont pull up to some guy who just dusted you in a stop light drag race and challenge him to a skid pad test, you can drive around for days or months before you go up against another car of any type.
I went from a C4 to a C5 so i can get a civilized ride and not have my teeth rattle over every bump. I drove an 04 Cobra and it felt high and narrow compared to the Vette. Totally different ride.
I dont care if the Mustang had 500 horsepower and got 200 miles to the gallon and was worth every penny 5 years from now, it still rode like an old Ford and had those Radio Shack switchs and didnt feel to secure at higher speeds. Unlike the Corvette that feels like it was born to cruze at 100 plus all day and still leave you feeling fine after hours of driving.
