I have a 2000 coupe, with automatic and 20K miles. When I slow down to come to a stop I hear a "clunk" from somewhere behind the drivers seat or left rear. It happens only at 15 to 16 mph! Anyone ever have this happen to them?
I've only had my vett for 9 months and its always made this noise. The strange part about it is it does'nt make the noise all-the-time, mostly when the car cold.
Thanks for your help!
Just the normal dealer service. I only had this car for 9 months and it's always made this noise, mostly when the cars is cold. Because it only makes this clunk noise at 15 to 16 mph maybe its when the transmission down shifts to 1st gear?
Thanks for your responce.
There are numerous things that could be causing the noise. But, the most common are a loose rear stabalizer bar. Or the metal flexing behind your seat. The flat panel under the carpet right behind the seat has a tendency to flex under certain conditions which causes a popping noise. My car used to do it under heavy accelleration after the cam and header install. Others have done on a stock setup.
If you can't narrow down where the noise is coming from you will probably have to get the car up on a lift and just start looking for anything that might be loose or look for abnormal wear marks from the parts banging together.
Thanks Ted,
I see your point but what I can't figure out is you can watch the speedometer when slowing down and the noise happens exactly at 15 or 16 mph, every time! Go figure?
Thanks!
