I say Pilot Sport PS2s. All the top cars in Car and Driver's latest shootout ran them. I think the HMS Viper that won ran like 11.4 at 145mph on them, not bad. Not cheap, but I'll be buying a set when they come out in 265/40/17 for the fronts soon. I hate my Kumho MXs. Cheap for a reason, the spongy sidewalls killed any crispness and high speed reflexes my car previously had. The grip wasn't bad, but otherwise they suck. I'll gladly spend an extra $500/set to have my handling back.

How long do you want them to last? Street legal for real or just DOT and then the threads are gone shortly? Rim size? Wear rating of 140 they will not be all that sticky. 265 is a bit small in front for me.

I really like my NITTO 555Rs. they stick nicely and they still last a long time. By long i dont mean years, but they do last at least 6 months or so and they only run about $150 a tire
If that's the case I would go with the Pirelli Corsa's that you were looking at or BFG Drag radials. If your 5K miles are spirited or if you want to always have the stickiest tire at your disposal in case of an unexpected encounter then I would go that route. Nitto makes a drag radial that is a bit less expensive than the other two and are highly recommended by those who use them. I will be facing the same dilemma shortly and have to decide if I want to stick like super glue or if a sudden encounter with rain is a possibility. If rain is in the forcast then a drag radial is not a good choice.
Hey Phil I just got my CCW Classic Streets (brushed anodized) with the Michelin PS2s on them. Tirerack rates them a 9.5 on dry traction, and an amazing 8.9 wet. If you want to check out how they feel I can come down and swap them onto your car for a spin. Just don't take too much rubber off! I am only putting about 4k miles per year on my car now, if I get three years out of them I would be happy. Out of the fronts anyway!
They aren't cheap, but for the performance you are looking for and the low miles you put on your car, it might work out. I bet you put more time on your MTs than your streets, hah...
Front: 18x10 265/35
Rear: 18x11 315/30
Haven't put them on yet, just staring lovingly at them for now.... Damn snow!
For a treaded street tire.......these at $100 ea with 90% tread was a great choice to drive 700+ miles one way to CI last year in a monsoon and the cut 1.75 60's.....and stuck at the auto x too
Tread wear is also 140......

For 345's I would hope they're sticky, probably stick with runflats! Now if I could only cut a 1.70 60' time on a 285 series tire like my mags call for I'd be O.K.

NITTOs get pretty decent traction in the rain. i was running them to the wire on the back and as long as i didnt get on it it was fine at around 65 MPH. If you want sticky and cheap I'd tell you to give the NITTOs a try. I used em on the strip and the street and i honestly think they are some of the best Non-M/T out there as far as sticky tires are concerned. For sure the best bang for your buck...
i used bfg g force drag radials in 295 35 18. Cut consistant 1.7 60' launching at 2k and they would easily cut 1.5-1.6s if i launched higher. Not a hint of spin even on the streets..

I read the same article and the Moser with a supercharger smoked his clutch because the tire got perfect traction and the engine overpowered the clutch. The 800 hp+ Viper and 800hp+ Lingenfelter were both running the Pilot sports... I don't think the Hennesey Viper or Lingenfelter Vette guys was too worried about how much tires costed.
