As of right now i have a stock '00 conv A4 w/ 3.15's
Sitting in my living room are:
Z06 catback
3.42 rear diff
underdrive pulleys
predator tuner
On the way... Supermaxx longtube system
My question is which is the best stall speed and company for my application? I was looking for a lower stall because i'm usually putting around town and alot highway use (not racer but i do play on occasion)

Do It just once
I have done it twice now on mt 2000 vert
I have a Vigilante 3800 .............
Had a yank sy3500 and 3.42
If you get the Vig you can upgrade it for free ..........

I'm certainly no expert, but wouldn't a 3800 be awfully loose for running around town a lot? When I asked a similar question, running 3.15 rear gears, most suggestions were to go between 2400-2800 stall speed to maintain similar to stock drivability. Don't know if similar to stock drivability is what he is after, but it kind of sounds like it. I need education in this area also.

This is a tough one: I've been dancing with this wench for months. One person says SS3600 is fine - another says that on the street there is too much "slop" or "looseness" on acceleration on the street-Another says if you go small (small being 2800) you will regret it - hard to get a solid footing on any of this. So many variables - some run drag radials on the street- some do not. Some want "streetable" car mainly while others want the total "strip" experience and may think 4000 is not enough. I hope I can resolve this issue as well.
I installed a Yank SS3200 and 3.42 gears about three weeks ago, created a monster.
With ZO6 sized (295/35/18) Yokohama tires the car now smokes the tires from a standstill or from any slow roll, I love it.
There is a slight bit of slippage but you soon get used to it, the lower the rear gear ratio the less slip and I generally drive in 2nd or 3rd gear around town, this also eliminates slippage as you keep the motor revved higher.
Can't wait for the drag strip to open in early March so I can bolt on the Nitto RR2 tires (305/35/18) and really see what it will do with traction, just from sotp feel I am sure I will drop .3 to .4 and I assume most of the gain will be in the short time.
Had the gear and tc installed by Jeef Creech at Carolina Auto Masters in Durham, NC, he also dynoed and tuned the car while I was there, picked up 11 hp.
Jeff and is operation is definately a class act, I have been a serious hot rodder since the middle 1960s and have encountered the good, bad & ugly in the past 40 years, Jeff ranks high on my short list of the good.
When I went from 2.73 gears to 3.42's I was wondering if I should change my converter. First you don't have to change. But, I went with a yank 2800, and I love it. Like you I don't drag race but I do like to play. The 2800 is a little loose, but not much. I drive mine daily and it's really nice.

I'm big into drag racing, So I went with DTE's Stage 2 diff w/ 3.90 gears and a YANK PT4000 with a 2.40 STR. I drive it around town in the summer amd still get 25 MPG
i have 3.42 gears w/ss3200 yank. it feels almost like stock except when you wot in 1 or 2 at slow speeds or a stop. i can't get traction and just smoke the zo6 10.5" stock tires even w/out nitrous.at the track i get 1.70 60 ft on drag radials and 11.50 w/100shot nitrous.
You won't be able to avoid reading up on each vendors website. Some of the Yank converters have high stall ratings but have good drivablity according to the website. The Vigilante converters drive like their stall is 400 higher than rated. I had a Vig 3000 and had it restalled as low as possible (2600), at 3000 it rev'd like a tow truck in traffic. It has much better drivability with a 2600 stall. When you raise the stall, you reduce responsiveness and it feels less sporty.
