Default Cam or Nitrous???

I have a dilemma of sorts.

I have an NX wet sitting in my dining room waiting to be installed, but I need an oil pump. I guess from reading, if you do an oil pump, you should do a cam as well.

Should I:

1) Install the nitrous and just replace the oil pump and not the cam

Or

2) Sell the nitrous and buy a cam and oil pump.

I wish I could do the three, but I cannot. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

No clue how much it would cost to replace the oil pump... but I do know that every time you push down the throttle that cam will still be there. My buddies and I call it POD (Power on Demand). Sell the N2O

The oil pump is around 150.00 for a ported LS6 pump. Labor will be minimal for cam and oil pump.

I know what you mean about POD, my friend said doing a cam is a waste of time. He says I will only gain about 15-25rwhp.

If you like your car and with the motor that's in it stay away from NOS. NOS in your motor is like cocaine in your brain. Really I wouldn't. Thats my take.

youll only gain that if thats all you do, if you keep stock manifolds, stock intake, stock tune. But if you put long tube headers, and tune it good, you will see about 60-100 rwhp , depending on how big of cam you go with.

Dump the nitrous, or you will be buying another motor next spring.

I vote for the cam along with the NX for you are going to rip it down anyways so why not just do it all....

I would hope I gain more than 25rwhp. I have:VR RamAir,LS6 intake, Long Tubes and Borla with X pipe exhaust. I have stock tuning right now, but a friend of mine is getting HP tuners.

I was thinking of going with TR224 cam.

I would love to do that, but I cannot afford to buy a cam, oil pump and gasket kit, timing chain etc.

The cam will be around $400, gaskets will be around $50 and I kept my stock timing chain when I did mine.

If you can't do it all right now then save your moey and buy the parts next month or the month after.

I've been a big N20 fan for the last 2 years, but frankly, I'm just plain tired of it! It's great! And very hard for anyone to keep up w/you w/an LS1 on the juice. But, filling the bottle all the time, having bad connections sometimes and the bottle heater or something is not working, etc. just become redundant problems. Plus, usually when I beat someone everybody would say, "oh...he's got nitrous, that's why he won". It's just not all that impressive from my personal experience, but it is still a blast. I've yet to lose when on the bottle except to an 813rwhp supra. But finally, my stock motor did go, and now I'm building a big cubes motor, but this time going w/a blower, and maybe a wee bit on N20 . But anyway, back to the point in hand, if you like to go race people and win quite a bit, have fun w/the N20. But if it's more for your own personal enjoyment, do the cam now and maybe later look into a bigger power adder. Just my $.02
