A vendor on E-bay (#7949595888) is advertising the following:
This do-it-yourself kit takes no knowledge of cars and is extremely easy to install. This is a resistor that will plug into your AIT(air intake temp) sensor and modify your AIR/FUEL ratio and slightly change your engine timing to run stronger and with increased power.
Releases the true HORSEPOWER of your engine!
This mod is a fraction of the cost of those expensive ECU upgrades ($200-$600)
Does this "vendor" offer or are there any hard copy, published testing results? If not, then this is probably something that falls into the categories of 'let the buyer' beware and 'if it looks too good to be true, it probably is."
They are sending you a resistor to lean out or richen the fuel by lying to the computer. You could spend $.05 at Radio Shack, or you could just tune it properly...
It is a resistor that tells the computer that the intake temp is low so that the PCM will advance the timing and also use a leaner fuel mixture table setting because colder air allows more spark advance as the danger of detonation is lessoned. This is not a very smart way to tune a car as it removes the adaptive nature of the PCM programming. Many hours of research went into setting up the spark advance and fuel trim settings and altering them without proper knowledge is a step in the wrong direction. Could you gain power with this mod? Yes. Can you damage your engine with this mod? Maybe. Is maybe worth the risk to me? NO.
I have prime Real Estate on Mars! Water Front Lagoon Lots, any one interested?
I'm sorry but a resistor is to radical on a very sensitive program, wouldn't this lead to fault codes and that cursed check engine light. It just seems your asking for trouble and possible engine problems. Don't think its worth it. Spend the money wisely and get a real tune.

How cold is the air on Mars?? We should all take our vettes there and talk about which intake is best...
It will affect how the engine runs, could be worse, could be better. Could blow up.
Don't do it. Unless you have the tools to monitor the a/f ratios and knock, you're essentially flying blind. And if you have those tools or are willing to pay someone that does, then why bother with this when you can just have it tuned properly?
