I'm at 37,000 miles and want to change my tranny fluid, my question is should I just do the filter & fluid or do the flush, fluid & filter procedure. I'm told doing this procedure will clean out all the old fluid about 12qt's + including the converter where if I just do the fluid & filter only you only get out about 4qt's what ever is in the pan. I just wasn't sure about this flush procedure and the chemical they run through the tranny to clean it.
By the way the dealer want's $220 to do the flush procedure.
Thanks Steve

I have had the flush done on all my vehicles, can't tell you if it's better, but maintenence is always a good thing. I have been using the Valvoline oil change shops to do the flush, the price was about 70 bucks.

I was under the impression that only the dealer had the equipment to do the tranny flush.

Yeh that's what they want you to think!
And at $220.00 your getting ripped off major big time.
I had mine done at a dealer because it was in for other service and they not only did the flush but I had them drop the pan and change the filter too.
All for $129.00
I had my other car done at a Goodyear dealer after having an alignment done, I think it was about $80.00 just for the flush.
Having been a transmission design engineer in my former life I will say it's cheap insurance if you have no current problems.
