Default New KDW-2's on rear - Car is all over the road?

I just recently purchased BFG KDW 2 NT's for the rear but still have my Kuhmo MX's on the front.

I dont know if this is just a no-no configuration, but the car seems to be all over the road - I have always thought the car felt pretty solid with the Kuhmo MX's all around, but now that i mixed them it is just a mess.

Is this normal??? I am running the KDW's at 35psi, and these tires really HOOK well.

Can i put the kdw 1 (old style tread) on the front? (dont make stock sizes in the new tread)

I just was not sure if the mixed mfg's would cause such a problem.

Don't see how it could. Different tires my adhere differently to the same road surface, but just because they are from different manufacturers alone doesn't mean much. Try playing with your air pressures. I usually run 32 in the rear.

I don't know the sizes you put on the rear of your car but when I upgraded to my 305 Nitto 555RII's the rear of my car really followed every rut in the road. The steam roller rears liked to try to drive the car.

the alignment was fine before i put the tires on, The initial pressure was 30 and they were really all over the place.

I was going to wait until i replace the fronts before i do an alignment, but again, i dont think there is anything wrong with it.

The rears are stock 295-35-18...

I have just put on 275/30/18 front and 295/35/19 rear on my C6 and the car definitely hooks better. The handling was a tougher sort though. It seemed that the car would be more noisy (tire squeal) on the curves and on-ramps. However the G-meter on the car definitely show a 2-3% improvement in handling. I saw .98-1.01 peak with the stock Z51 runflats. The new set-up is easily doing 1.02-1.03 now. The noise is a tough sell though since the run-flats were not squealing in the turns at all. The KDW's do handle better but they 'talk' too much before losing it.

My understanding is thats what they are supposed to do as opposed to no squealing and then they let go. I'll let them talk all day if thats the case.

Say Spin,
I have a similar set up, 275/35/18 & 295/35/19, and it definately helped hooking up!! Does your's "feel" as planted when hitting the curves though? My car feels very loose in the twisties but much improved straight line.
It's been a long time since I have driven her though. Trying to get a heads/cam package straightened out............for almost 10 months now. Long story.

But back to the tires, I read someone posted a while back that they actually got rid of the KDW 2's due to the lack of handling. Glad I saw your post though.

I just put 255/40/17 and 295/35/18 KDW-2's on my 02 Z06. I have not had many chances to play with them, but so far the seem better than the bald F1's. Not that that means much...
