I saw a C6 on the dealer's showroom, and there was a tag around the the manual shifter stating that the C6 muust be parked in reverse to prevent battery discharge. Naturally the salesman was clueless. What's the deal?

In an M6, you must place it in reverse when you to fully shutdown the car
I always leave my car in gear when I'm parked but it's always first and never reverse. It just so happens that it always seems that I'm parked on an incline and being in first gear is a good backup to my parking brake. So with a vette I guess i would have to back up into the parking space and then reverse would serve the same function.

I have almost always driven a manual shift car. (since the late 80's) I have never heard of this! I have started doing it, just to get in the practice, incase I ever do get my vert.
Reverse is actually better than 1st gear since it provides a higher ratio. As you all know it is the engine compression that keeps the car from moving when the car is parked in either ist or reverse.
I was thinking that the only negative with having to shift the car into reverse is having to tell the valet driver to put the car in reverse when he parks it. I go to restraunts regularly with valet parking, but even if the guy forgets I suppose that two hours isn't going to drain the battery that much.

Missprissybrat this is where your youth may get in the way. I can recall my Dad teaching me this technique. But then there were many other techniques that I found it necessary to learn on my own.
If you keep practicing I bet you can get it right.
