Don't let fear rule your life. If you ordered a car now, by the time you got it the thieves raiding your apartment complex will have moved on. Get an alarm with shattered-glass sensor and sleep soundly. Worst case somebody breaks in anyway and takes stuff. So don't leave stuff in the car and the most you have to fear is a broken window. Broken windows can be fixed.
Are the thieves just hitting the most expensive cars? Or are they hitting sedans, minivans, and SUVs too? Aren't you worried about your current car?
Don't live in fear. Understand your environment, and don't be stupid, but don't let it cripple you. Bad things happen everywhere, but the statistical chances are low almost everywhere too.
I've lived in "unsafe" neighborhoods, but it wasn't until I moved into a yuppie neighborhood that my Isuzu's stereo was stolen and my Integra's wheels were stolen -- right there in the driveway. And my car was raided at work in the security-patrolled lot -- twice in two weeks.
Too many people watch too many inflammatory news reports. Too many people hear about crime in their area -- usually a temporary opportunistic streak of non-violent burglaries -- and they leap to frightening irrational conclusions about personal ruin and bodily harm. Too many people are too quick to give up or start packing. Before you move or buy a gun or give up the things you enjoy for fear they'll just be taken away, stop and think for a moment.
And realize if you don't get the car, you've already let them take it from you.
Was forced to cancel my C6 order.I live in an apt building that has been having a slew of car robberies in the garage .12 in about a year in a half, but about half in the last 4 months.Onewas attempted 2 nights ago,was seen by owner and the thieves fled.Told my wife i would be lying awake nights not knowing whats going on in the garage.Until i move i will be vetteless in New Jersey.Very very upset. PLease cheer me up.
You have your priorities straight. Buying a house is way more important than buying a car - even a Corvette. Once you own that home, then you can feel good about buying that C6 for the garage!
