Default A4 performance shift - what do you think?

The automatic tranny C6's have a "performance shift" algorithm. When it senses that you are driving a vette like it ought to be driven - fast acceleration and taking turns fast, it will go into performance shift mode. This will keep it in a lower gear for a longer time.

Sounds neat on paper, but what are your actual experiences with it?

I thoroughly HATE it. Most of the time it has pissed me off. I quickly make a turn, get up to the speed limit, and get out of the gas. I expect it to shift into 4 after that, but sometimes it stays in 2nd and lurches back and forth like somebody who doesn't know how to drive a stick. I'm left sitting there yelling at the POS to shift, and 5 seconds later, it decides to shift.

Is there any way to disable the performance shift? I really hate it that much.

What you describe doesn't sound normal. Maybe it needs to go get looked at.

I have an A4 C6 and nothing like that has happened in 7000+ miles.

My 2004 does that and it was a big change from my 1994. I just thought it was bad programming and didn't realize that it was trying to second guess what I was doing. It irritated me big time for about the first 6 months after I bought the car, but I have finally gotten used to it.

My C6 NEVER does that. Not once!

I drive it hard all the time and I mean hard! When I lift the car shifts. All the time. Get it checked out.
