Default Ignition/Accessory Mode Question

I've read the manual but still not sure which is the proper way to shut down the car...do you push the bottom left (the circle) or the bottom right (ACC)? I want to make sure I'm not draining the battery unnecessarily after shut down. Thanks!

While we're on the subject...can someone please tell me in plain English in what scenarios I would use either of these two options - the circle (o) or (ACC)?

I don't think you can turn off one side or the other to turn off the engine. You just press the whole lower part of the switch.

If you have a manual tranny and it's in reverse (or an auto tranny and it's in PARK), the light at the lower left part of the switch will light up to show you it's in RAP (Retained Accessory Power) mode and shut-down was okay. If you haven't turned off the engine properly, the right side will light up for ACC (Accessory) mode.

If the switch is in RAP mode, you can switch to ACC mode by pressing the bottom part of the switch again.

Use RAP mode to retain power for just a few minutes - listen to the radio, lower the windows, etc. Use ACC mode for an extended period of time to do the same, but be sure to remember to switch to RAP mode when you get through.

The switch is just a spring loaded DPDT center off rocker switch, it has no side to side action. Press the top to start, press the bottom to stop. If you press the bottom again after the engine is stopped, it goes into accessory mode. It will continue to toggle between accessory mode and RAP mode as you press it again and again. RAP mode is similar to accessory mode, radio still plays, seat switches work, etc, except it turns off when a door is opened. Press and hold the bottom of the switch for 5 seconds and it goes into a diagnostic mode which tests the instrument panel displays.

Proper shutdown is to press the bottom of the switch briefly to kill the engine and engage RAP mode (small dot lit). About 20 seconds after you exit the car, the dot will extinguish, indicating the car is dormant waiting for an exterior door membrane switch (door handle) press. When you do that, the car wakes up, the door solenoid activates and unlatches the door to let you in. (If you've locked the car, either with a fob lock button press, or passively if you've set the car up that way, the car first queries for the presence of a fob after the door membrane switch is pressed before unlocking the door.)

I did just look at the manual for another thread. In RAP mode, the power will stay on for 10 minutes, or until a door is opened. In ACC mode, the power will stay on for 20 minutes, or until a door is opened.
