Default Air conditioner

Okay, I've read the manual and still can't make much sense of how this thing works...when I turn the **** to a set temperature do I have to hit auto? does it do it automatically? I find that unless I push the auto button and the other one that shows the pic of a car with an arrow inside (what does this even do, recirculate air in the cabin?) that it doesn't really do very much...what am I missing here? Why does this thing have to be so complicated?????

The system will try to make that side the temp you set no matter what the other controls say. Auto tries to optimize the fan and the circulation direction. You can modify the direction the air comes from and the fan speed to meet your requirements. The recirc button just says that you will be getting air from the inside of the cabin instead of the outside. Handy when behind a diesel, cigar smoker, or Harley rider.

To give everyone a choice of options. I just leave mine on AUTO all the time. I didn't realize until the other day that setting will also do the recirculation bit if it's pretty warm in your car when you first start up.

How do you leave it on AUTO all of the time? I can't seem to get mine to stay on...it wants to default back once I turn the car off...what am I doing wrong?

Dunno. I do leave my controls set right where I had them when I turn off the engine. When I start my car again next time, the climate controls come on automatically and are set for AUTO. Supposedly, the settings for the climate control are saved automatically per fob.

You don't turn yours off before you stop the engine, do you?

After you put the system into "auto" mode, press and hold the memory set button. It sounds like your memory is currently programed for the manual setting.
