Before I got my MN6 I had the info for ordering the skip shift eliminator. So far I have not needed it though I am only around 300 miles. It would seem if you drive it like it is meant to be driven, downshift when making stops and turn and keeping revs up that you don't need it. How many have not had any 1st to 4th issues and how many have gotten the shift eliminator because it was an issue????? Saving gas really is sort of a non issue with this much fun available!
CAGS hits me most in stop and go driving. I long shift the car to get around it. It's a bit of a pain, but nothing that can't be delt with by training.
I put 1900 miles on my 6-spd before trading it for an auto tranny for several reasons. Could have used the skip shift eliminator exactly twice. Both times it was an overly cautious driver in front of me while we were both making a left turn.
Just the idea of not being able to put the manual transmission into the gear I want when I want it annoys me, so I got the CAGS eliminator before by car arrived. The dealer installed it for me as part of the dealer prep.
I don't fault Chevy for doing this, as it helps avoid the gas guzzler tax and helps with their overall CAFE numbers. To me the "fix" is so easy and inexpensive, I never considered not doing it.

I thought mine didn't even work until I purposely drove to see if I could make it kick in. Seemed like it happened more easily on my C5.
I have a CAGS eliminator but may not install it.
When the elimination costs $20 and 10 minutes effort that a 10 year old can accomplish, I don't understand why anyone would not just do it. If it forces you to 4th once a week, once a month, or once a year, it is an irritation on an otherwise wonderful car to drive. Just do it and forget it!
CAGS is aggravating and dangerous when it kicks in when you least expect it. In a busy intersection when you are focusing on traffic CAGS can activate- you expect to go into second and give it gas accordingly but find yourself in 4th- not the most safest of situations at times.

Don't take a chance and have somebody rear end you. Save the Wave.>George

I couldn't wait to get rid of it! Now I can drive my way.
From: Buena Park, CA I seem to have left my electrolytes with your daughter
CAGS drove me insane when I drove the C6 for the first time....just in the 30 miles test drive...I get the manual because it fun to drive, you can control your power, and you can use the tranny to get yourself into and out of sticky situations. The Skip shift makes sense fro a GM standpoint, but even GM makes it a cake walk to put in the eliminator. I say, why sacrifice the exact purpose you got the MN6? Why "retrain" yourself to shift at certain RPMs? Just put in the eliminator and drive the car the way you damn well please!

I've got just under 600 miles on my C6 and feel the skip shift is a non-issue. Even during the break in period when I was "taking it easy" it rarely engaged because I just kept the RPM's up a bit.
The CAGS system is much less intrusive than when I first encountered it in the MN6 equipped 1996 Z-28/SS I bought nearly a decade ago now.
It seemed like everytime I tried the 1-2 shift the CAGS system was interrupting in that car. With each successive iteration in each slightly newer car I've encountered it, things have improved. The 2000 Camaro SS, the 2001 C5 and now this 2005 C6. The CAGS system is improved to the point now that I can't recall ever hitting it in the C6.
All of that being said, I still installed the CAGS eliminator. 10 minutes of my time and if I do ever see the skip shift light come on, I'll just chuckle smugly to myself.
