I'm heading up to Road Atlanta this weekend for a vette gathering. I'm hoping to be one of the 100 vettes that gets to do the parade lap around the track. I thought it would be cool to mount a camera inside the car so I could video the lap from inside and out. Is there a mount available for the C6 yet? If not does anyone know how to make an inexpensive mount?

Yup.. its EASY to make an inexpensive mount.. This absolutely works..
**Bring your camera with you.
Head over to your local Home depot and go to the shower section.. Get yourself a Shower Curtain Rod that is a twist tighten not a spring loaded one. Then head over to the plumbing section and get yourself one of these doojammies..
Im sure you see where im heading with this Next over to the hardware section to find a screw thats long and fits your camera.. Get that screw and buy a regular nut, washer and a wing nut..
Now you put that screw threw the hole in the pipe clamp with the threaded part sticking out the top (obviously) then use the regular nut to hold it in place then put the wing nut on upside down (it will be used to hold the camera steady and put the washer over it. Now thread the camera on the top of the thread as far is it can go then use the wingnut to keep it from spinning.

How do I attach this to the car? It would seem that you need a rollbar or harness bar. Is that correct?
Nope.. if you have a coupe just use the shower curtain rod and it has little feet on the end.. you just adjust it untill its tight across the car.. (above the speakers right behind the seats).

I have to admit, this is the neatest and simplest way to mount a camera. I have trying to think up some way to achieve the same result, but my solutions always wind up being a lot more complicated. Nice idea!

I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. I just need to get the camera to get the correct bolt size.

You dont need the threaded piece of the pipe clamp to be the same size as the threaded piece on the bolt you are going to use to screw into the camera.. thats what that extra nut is for.. just in case its a different thread size for the pipe clamp (which it might be bigger).. Ill take a picture of my concoction tonight for you
Why not just use a tripod and bungie cords. That always works!
This tripod and bungee setup should work if you are just filming a slow parade lap, but anyone doing high speed lapping may have a problem with the safety people if they use this setup.
Usually when the run group is being formed on the grid before send off, a safety inspector will do a fast look into your car to check if anything is loose, safety belt and helmet are fastened, etc.
I have had them stop me from going on the track because I had a loose jacket laying on the passenger seat. They would likely notice the tripod and bungee cord setup, and would assume that it would break loose in a crash.
The Daemon solution probably would not withstand a crash without coming loose, but it will appear sturdy enough to get past the quick look of the safety guy. After that you are on your own.

It sounds clever but it also sounds like it won't work. How do you keep the camera from rotating forward (or backward) on braking or acceleration? I can picture the camera taking a movie out the windshield and then spinning forward and hanging from the underside of the shower curtain rod taking video of the floor.
You're talking about using a spring-loaded shower curtain rod to support the camera?
There are other, more refined solutions (and yes, they're more expensive) that are worth considering since you don't need a video-camera "projectile" flying around inside your Vette:

I can see your point and if the laps I am going to be doing were at any kind of speed I would buy a better setup. However, I'm short notice here. I leave for Atlanta in 3 days. I know, my fault on that one. Plus, like I said, these are going to be low speed laps so I think the "Home Depot" mount will work just fine. I'm going to set it up for the drive up to try it out. If it can handle I-65 for 90 mph it should be able to handle a parade lap at Road Atlanta.
