On my Automatic transmission, what do the settings 3 - 2 - 1 stand for on the transmission?
Would you use one of these setting to help you accelerate faster?
There was a thread earlier this week how a person with MX0 was disappointed because he could not 'burn' out with his auto transmission. Could you use one of these gears/setting to do so? Would it be advisable to do so?
I believe 1 will not shift the car into the next gear, 2 (I think one shift), 3 (3 shifts) and D is overdrive, gear 4 - correct.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Have you ever drivin a car before? Every Automatic from the Model T had a 1, 2, D or 1, 2, 3, D or 1, 2, OD. of course if your in Drive & you switch to 3 or 2 you accelarate, your down shifting the transmision to a lower gear. No offence, I have seen some posts but this top's the cake...

There are a LOT of places around the world which have never ever seen an automatic transmission - maybe he hasnt ever driven an automatic before. Hell most of us NEVER use the 1,2,3 on automatic tranny's anyhow and if you get early senility like me you start to forget if 3 was "stuck in 3rd" or only shift up to third...
Owners manuals... we dont need no stinkin owners manuals...
But to original post: You are correct and yes its in owners manual... try leaving car in 3 position on an open highway and youll see how much more responsive car gets around 50 MPH vs leaving it in drive..just dont do it for a long time less you dont care about fuel economy.
