Default vin question

ok... here's my vin, can someone with a bit more knowledge than I help decode it for me. I've searched the web (google) but have been unable to find info related to the 05 model year.

also if someone is able to tell me what issues I may need to watch out for it would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the clutch issu, but it looks like I can't confirm that until they tear it down and if the build dates on the clutch isn't in the range then I end up paying for the tear down, etc... uugghhh...

well anyway here's my vin: 1G1YY24U555106810

Why would you get stuck paying for the delaerships misdiagnosis? Isn't the car under warrenty. I smell .

Are you having problems with the clutch? I don't think they'll do anything if you're not. Just because your VIN may be in a certain range doesn't mean anything if you not having a problem.

Only a dealer can look up your VIN in the system and tell you anything. What do you want them to tell you?

yes the car is still under warantee, as well as extended warantee.

won't they charge me to do the tear down if it turns out the clutch isn't in the listed date range from the Clutch tsb for stuck to the floor. yes i have high rpm stuck to the floor issue but according to the tsb that i read you don't know which clutch is installed until you tear it down at check the date code on the clutch assembly.

i was one of the first folks to point this issue out with the c6 and i'd love to get it fixed.

the other day i had the dead battery issue, must not have been all the way in reverse and they charged me $84 to charge the fricking battery....

yes, i have the "clutch stuck to floor at high rpms" issue.

regarding the vin, i'd love to decode it so i could know what sequence number my car is, etc. as far as i can tell it was number 6810 off the assembly line, i could be wrong, that's why i was asking....

would 6810 be considered a low number or average, etc..

Last I looked, the month and year of mfg for the car is on the sticker in the drivers door frame. My guess is it WAS built prior to the 12/04 clutch cut-off date. BTW the sticker is on the door, not the body $.02

My VIN no. is 8069. It was built the early part of November. I think they've built about 23,000 C6s so far. 6810 is a fairly low VIN no. Yours was built before mine was.

thanks, this was what i was looking for.

concerning the plant sequence number, is the leading 1 not used meaning that i have number 6810 ?

could this also mean that i have the potential for the "crank pulley bolt" problem ? I've got just over 13k miles so far and no probs with it so, crossed fingers, all is good there.

Yes, your car was the 6,810th one built. It does also fall into the crank pulley TSB but I doubt you will have problems. Most of the problems have been with less than 2,000 miles.

The first digit of the VIN sequence number is sometimes alternated between 1 and 5. For a Vette, it will (in all likelihood) never be used since it would denote 100,000 Vettes produced in one year. In the case of Bowling Green, the Vette's sequence number starts with 1, and XLR's sequence number starts with 6. One reason for this is the GM system only requires the last eight digits of the VIN number to perform a vehicle search. That first digit of the sequence number is used to separate two different carlines, manufactured in the same year, same plant.
As for crank pulley bolts problems, I cannot answer that. A lot seems to depend on driving habits. There are many Vette owners who baby the Vette and the engine very seldom sees high RPM.

I just finished reading the TSB on the clutch and to me it seems impossible for your car to not be effected. The reason is all clutches built prior to 12/13/2004 are effected by this TSB. Since your car was built 10/26/2004 the clutch should be within the effected range.

My car also falls within the effected range however I have yet to have a problem.

Your C6 is the 6810 built. You're going to fall will with in the range.

Have to get a dealer or someone else with proper access to look it up in the GM system with the VIN. It's not built into the VIN. The month & year of build are on a placque in the doorframe, but that's all.

Default Vin Info

Great info, but I went out and checked my number and I have a 9 after the U for the engine. Anyone know what that means? Mine was the 21,035 produced in March......hope they had it figured out by then!
