Well, I'm in Baltimore tonight -- Glad to report that the HOOTS are still standard equipment here. But they might have become an option at other locations.

oh yes -- back to the topic of this thread.
I have the 1SB 7 speaker Bose system on a Vert.
Also can't tell that this feature actually does anything at all.
And mine (not NAV) only has On/Off when you press the auto thingy. There's no other adjustment.

There is a tsb on this subject, it's a bose thing and it does'nt get louder. Check with your dealer they should have the bs on how it is suppose to work. The test I got was sit in the car, have the radio on at a normal volume then turn the heater fan on full and thats suppose to show how well it works.

When in doubt, read the manual.
I didn’t know there was an adjustment for this until I read your post. Thanks for reminding me I have to read the manual again! I have been putting it off, and now I wonder what else I may have missed.

There is no adjustment on the non-nav system. After reding this thread I tried it and all I got was "ON" or "OFF".

Now I've got to go back and look at mine. I've got to honestly say I don't remember ever seeing the MIN, MED, MAX display on mine either. I do know the sound on my non-Nav XM is noticeably louder when I'm driving 55-60 MPH than it is when I'm in town at 35-40 MPH.

Doesn't seem to do anything on my non nav system either. Worked pretty well on the C5's that I have had.

Mine doesn't seem to work at all. Is there a button you need to push to turn auto volume on?

Yes, the last button on the right-hand side in the row of buttons below the display screen for the radio says "AUTO". Press that button and see what you get on the display. If necessary, keep pressing & releasing until you get "ON" or "AUTO ON", I don't remember which.

Yes, in spite of what the owner's manual says, there is no MIN, MED, MAX on the AUTO VOL function with the 1SB, non_Nav radio. Pressing the "AUTO VOL" button gets you1 of 2 possible messages: either "AUTOMATIC VOLUME ON" or "AUTOMATIC VOLUME OFF". I just tried it.

But my AUTO volume does noticeably work.

EDIT: BTW, the next paragraph after the one containing the info. about "MIN", "MED", and "MAX" says that if your vehicle has the Bose audio system, it includes Bose AudioPilot noise compensation technology. It also requires use of the AVOL button. I guess that's what those of us with 1SB and non-Nav have. It compensates for background noise.

Thanks for the many responses. I especially took the tip about reading my manual. So having just looked at the manual and since I have the 6 CD system, I don't have the 3 options of min-max - only on/off. I swear with it being on I can't tell any difference.

Non-Nav, and Vert. Only settings are off and on. I cannot discern if it is working. If it is speed sensitive, then it is not tuned for top down driving (but might be working for top up). If it is sensing ambient noise as was advertised, then it is just broken. My old camaro was speed sensitive with three settings and worked great. "Read the manual" is not always helpful, and not helpful at all for this thread. I would love some real information about this, instead of the jokes. Thanks.

Page 3-78.

If your vehicle has the Bose® audio system, it includes
Bose AudioPilot® noise compensation technology.
When turned on, AudioPilot® continuously adjusts the
audio system to compensate for background noise,
so that your music always sounds the same at the set
volume level. This feature is most effective at lower radio
volume settings where background noise can affect
how well you hear the music being played through your
vehicle’s audio system. At higher volume settings,
where the music is much louder than the background
noise, there may be little or no adjustments by
AudioPilot®.
To use AudioPilot®, set the radio volume to your
desired level. Turn AudioPilot® on by pressing the
automatic volume button until AVOL ON appears on the
display. As you increase vehicle speed, the background
noise in your vehicle will increase. AudioPilot® will
adjust your audio system’s output for the background
noise it hears. To turn AudioPilot® off, press the
automatic volume button until AVOL OFF appears on
the display. For additional information on AudioPilot®,
please visit www.bose.com.

...thats a fact and when you adjust it to MAX, it kicks out pretty good, or at least for me.
