Is is me or the manual? I have read it, re-read it; re-re-read it and there are things missing or not making sense. For instance it talks about right hand and left hand map window but not what they show or how to get there. I see buttons on screen that looks as if it would put the screen in multi-window mode but they are greyed out?
Does it just take a lot of time playing with the system or don't I read very well? At least I know why you can't play with it while driving. Even if it were the co-driver they'd be wondering out loud what to do.
There are so many features to the Nav system that I couldn't begin to understand them all. I have learned from both the forum and the manual how to do a basic trip. As far as advanced features it is just trial and error. I just start pressing things to see what they do. Try planning a trip even if its just across town. Make it somewhere you are familiar with. That way you can learn the nav screen. After awhile the basics will seem easy.
I recently did a trip to Long beach from Vegas. I had several stops in the LA area. I had the addresses for each stop. I learned a lot by typing them in the nav and then following it to my destination. It worked far better than I expected. I have found some errors in the system as well. It tells me to turn in the middle of a desert freeway when there is clearly no turn to be made. I think that is an error of the data disc not the nav unit. So I program the nav then use some common sense as to where its going!
It's a serious hassle figuring it out. But, is sure is worth it. One thing I've found out in rural America is this, turn off the sound and just pay attention to the map, if it shows the route going down Hwy. X, just stay on it. If you turn on the sound, it interupts every few miles to tell you to go around the next curve. But, once in an unfamiliar town, turn it back on, very handy, IMHO
Also, trust the technology. I've been down roads I didn't know existed and found new ways to go to unfamiliar places.
Same recommendation: Keep going throgh the menu on your own and refer to the Forum. The quick reference is ok. Seems the Nav Manual's Tech Writers were out to lunch when they wrote it.
BTW, who do you send highway/road correction info to? I too found spots on the Nav system that do not match the "Real World".
