Default V1-Initial Observations

FIRST I DO NOT WANT TO START A WAR, JUST POSTING OBSERVATONS!!!

I first opened the box expecting this massive brick because of how everyone describes it. Not that big at all, very nice size I think. Being female size does matter. The others might be smaller, but I do not think this is big and clunky.

It picks up all signals out there, but I don't mind that. In the different modes it mutes out the low strength signals and signals the stronger ones.

Seems very effective and I love the arrows already. I am not saying this one is better because I have not used the others, but these are my initial observations. I am happy with my purchase. Now I have to determine what mirror mount to get.

I've had mine for about a year and have been very happy with the performance, but I have problems driving directly into the sun when it is low in the sky, as it sets off the laser warning and it doesn't shut off until it is pointed away from the sun. Anyone else have this problem?

Good choice - it's a great detector. I was surprised at the size as well. I think it's a new case.

The boogey counter is great too and it is loud enough to hear over the radio. Again, I am sure the other detectors are awesome as well, but so far I am happy with my choice.

As for the size, I have one that I bought in 2001 and another I bought a few months ago. The new one is much smaller than the old one. The old one is a brick, but is still very effective.

Regarding the laser going off, the only time that happens to me when it is false is when I am driving behind a chevy trail blazer and their break lights go on.

I e-mailed Valentine on the false laser alerts, and they said it is "fairly common". It appears that it is only fairly common for me

Average shipping time and packaged very well.

Also check out the easy wiring thanks to a fellow forum member:

And don't forget the mirror mount:

Love mine!

From a previous post I am weary of the Great Lakes mount. I am still waiting for someone to try out the one from the forum store, which I don't think uses adhesive.

I use the remote and used one of the tips on the Forum to install the V1 itself. I mounted the remote on the (mostly) flat part of the steering column on top - the part that moves up and down when you adjust the steering wheel. I used the velcro-like (but better) adhesive backed stuff that came with the V1. I ran the electric down the windshield post on the passengers side and hooked it up behind the carpet on the passenger floor. It shuts off with the ignition. The only issue I have with the V1 is that I get lots and lots of false alarms. It did save my backside last weekend so I guess the false alarms are the price one pays.

I've had those cheap ones that you buy at walmart. I didn't like it and didn't feel safe in a way I guess you can say. So I got a 8500. I like it very much. Had it for just over a year now. Haven't tried any others yet though. Think I'm going to sell it though and get the x50 blue. I just love blue.
