Default Battery Drain Protector

Has anyong used the Griot's Garage catalog has a "Battery Drain Protector" or a similar device to address the battery drain problem?

"A built-in microprocessor chip monitors your battery. When it senses excessive battery drain, it disconnects the battery before it gets below the starting capability point. When returning to your car, just start it as you normally would; the Battery Drain Protector automatically reconnects the battery! "

I'd be very skeptical about this on a C6. Ask yourself how you're going to get into the car every time with the battery disconnected. Also ask yourself how the unit is going to sense you want to start the car when the pushbutton on the dash isn't connected directly to battery, but rather talks to the computer, which then commands the ignition and starter to activate. In other words, with no power to the computer, nothing happens that might signal the battery protector to "automatically reconnect".

This thing might be fine for a car with conventional mechanical door latches and a conventional key type ignition. But I don't see how it can work as advertised in the C6.

Seems hard to make it worse since there is little difference between dead and disconnected. Either way you walk home.

These problems HAVE to be the battery. Mine sat all winter & fired up.

As Lager also stated, if there is a problem, it's your battery. You need neither device

I have never heard of any C5's battery lasting the winter without being charged or started.

I think everone is missing his point.
If I'm not mistaken, he's talking about walking away from the car and leaving the interior lights on, or some similar situation.
Then the device would stop the excessive drain before it gets too low to start a car.

Guess I've been lucky so far. No dead battery issues at all. I travel quite a bit in with my work, so its not uncommon for my car to set in the garage on ocassion for 1 or 2 weeks without being started. So far, no problems--after reading all the various threads, if I start to have problems, the 1st thing I'm going to do is replace the battery with an Optima or something.
