Any members out there that occasionally miss third gear? I'm not quite sure what happens. I've had over seven vettes and something strange happens occasionally when I race someone and go for third gear. Maybe I'm not missing the gear but the clutch isn't coming back up? Anyone have similar problem???
I missed third sometimes when really into the gas, installed Hurst shifter & haven't missed it since. MAJOR improvement over stock, very precise & firm.

Mine would do that, too when it had less than 1000 miles on it. I noticed the same thing happened to the guy next to me in another C6 MN6 as we both took off from a stoplight. (my shifts went perfectly that time )When we stopped at the next light we were talking and he said he just got the car. Now I have 3000 miles on it and it goes into gear a lot better. I drove another C6 with 5000 miles on it and it shifted very smooth. This makes me think that the gearbox loosens up as the car gets broken in.

What do you mean by "miss third gear?" Do you mean that you end up in another gear, that you miss the gate a end up in neutral, or that the shifter is where it should be, but the transmission is in neutral?
You also said that the clutch didn't come back up. That is probably not a shifter problem. Some folks have reported that the clutch pedal does not come back up when shifting at high RPMs. It comes back up when the RPMs drop. I think this has been corrected in more recently produced cars.
I was having the problem of on hard acceleration from 2nd to 3rd it would miss the gear and stay in neutral even though it was in the position of 3rd gear. I brought it to the dealer and I could not reproduce the problem so they would not look at it. I went ahead and put in a hurst short throw and it rarley happens now. the hurst shifter is more precise

Yeah, I had this problem before. I normally just write if off as "my mistake". The adrenalin is pumping and just can't wait to get in out of second gear that I'm too quick coming off the clutch and not forcefull enough pushing it forward into third. When I tell myself to be more deliberate/aggressive going into to 3rd, I don't miss it. It ain't the clutch, its you.

Hey DAD,
I Think its just old age..Your legs & arms dont react as quickly as they used to do.Being in my thirties i have no worries of that
I've seen a few complaints about missing third, but I wonder how many of them are caused by people just not getting the throw angle right? I find that if I just shove the shifter almost straight forward, maybe just a hint to the right, it always goes into third. I wonder if some of the third gear issues are caused by people "thinking too much" and intentionally trying to throw the shifter too far to the right and they end up hitting the gate between 3 and 5. In other words, you might be going a little too far right. If you are winding out second and throw the shifter forward quickly, it's very difficult to engage 1st gear by mistake so that's something I never worry about.
I have experienced this about 5 times now and thought it was just the way I was shifting. Hearing other folks mention this now has me thinking that there has to be something to this other than poor shifting skills. I never miss a shift just driving around town or semi-spirited launches. The miss shifts have happened when I have jumped on it really hard.
