I got a lead on a Precision Red cpe loaded, 1SB, Nav, roof, Z51 with 1300 miles for 47300. Just not sure exactly what the Precision Red looks like. Is it metallic or not? Thanks, Dean

I am far from an expert on reds, but the Precision red was unpopular with many people because they thought it fell far short of something like the Torch red. It is my understanding that Precision red is not metallic and that the negative input of red lovers resulted in it being discontinued early after production. As with most everything else I suggest you take a look at it and perhaps compare it to the current bright red. I never saw what the fuss was about, but then red is not one of my favorites unless it is something like the magnetic red.

It's not metallic. Just dull flat paint, the reason it was discontinued.
Thanks! I did see where they came out with a new red! Might have to pass on this one. Again, Thanks! Dean
Don't pass without a look. Precision Red was actually my second choice after DSOM. It looks different depending on the lighting conditions. Only 1,310 were made and it really is a nice color.

Whew! after reading first post, thought I was heading to Yorktown, with the convincing stick.

I have a Precision Red Coupe and in my opinion it is the nicest color ever on a Vette and I've been driving them for 33 years. To me the Mag red has too much metal flake in the paint and almost looks "sparkly" in direct sunlight. PR is a deep maroonish red that takes on different hues depending on the light. Don't give up on this color until you see it in the flesh. I have never had more positive feedback on a car color than I have since I bought this car. Absolutely Gorgeous, especially when Zainoed!!! Part of the reason it was discontinued was confusion at the factory by workers when trying to differentiate Mag red and PR body panels as they are so close. The other reason was a desire for a traditional Torch red. So they started Victory Red. PR was NOT discontinued because it is so "dull". Look at the car in the light and then make a decision.

you are correct and the dealers wanted a bright red becuase the PR and MR are both dark colors. if they would have had TR i would have ordered that but i am pleased with my PR. the new red VR is a GM truck and cavalier color and like my corvettes to have a color you do not see on every street corner. also i think the MR they have now has a pink cast to the color. No, It's not Metallic
Got the chance to see a PR at the car show in Boerne, TX several weeks ago. It got a lot of bad press when it first came out, thus it got discontinued... Shame, after seeing in in direct sunlight, I think it's beautiful. It's tough to describe, I like the mag red without metalic flake description, except that it's a bit darker than that. It has some magenta in it. It is a VERY rich red color, and even in the sunlight, it almost looks like it's still in the shade, sort of "shadowy".
To be honest, if I had it to do over again, I think I would choose PR. It won best of C6 at the show, and I think it was well deserved. All colors were represnted, including the new VR..
I had never owned a red vette until I bought this C6. I preferred the Preceision Red because it was very deep and rich looking. It's almost a blood red. Here's mine in the sunlight...

Had I not seen a PR up close, I wouldn't have though much of it. However, having seen one up close, I think it's a nice red.
I don't care for VR. MagRed is nice, but for those who'd like a red that's not as dark, but is not as bright as VR, PR filled the gap nicely.

Yeah, that's got to be tough, one's darker and has a ton of metal flake (translate to factory talk- "sparklies") and the other is lighter and has NO metal flake (sparklies) at all.
Gives some insight as to the high level of intelligence that exists at the factory, huh?

I wonder how long before Ted sees this.
Frank
No Ted yet, but I'll respond. Wait, just saw your second post hedge, so all is forgiven. This red needs light, and at least Zaino to look its best. I understand the arguement of factory confusion between MR and PR during assembly. Lighting is not the best in that plant IMHO after a tour last week. See PR and VR in every lighting condition possible before your decision. I love my PR (look <), especially since its a rather unique red for GM.

Hey now, ease up on that kind of talk. Those guys and gals that work the line do a great job, and the lighting in some areas is low. They have a great sense of pride at the BG plant. They definitely know that they are building not just any GM car, but a vette. It is the hardest of all the GM facilities to get a job in, long waiting list...
When we did our plant tour during NCM delivery, it was difficult to tell the red colors apart, and there were both PR and MR cars on the line.
Alot of folks did jump all over the P.R. but that did not change my order...Glad I didnt ..Absolutly a stand alone color....Mag Red is way to metalflaky for my taste ,and the V.R. is the same color as every pickup truck Chevy has made in the last 30 yrs......P.R./Cashmere / XM..WART. what a rare one I have......

1. I've never seen a red I didn't like.
2. No excuse for poor lighting. Good lighting is imperative from both production and safety standpoints.

Alright, alright. Maybe the comment about the intelligence level @ the factory was a bit harsh. I'm sure they're all good, fine people.
I stand by my comment on telling the difference in the reds though. If a automobile factory has an issue w/ workers telling the diff between two VERY different reds, then it's time to up the wattage in that place.
