Default New member needs advice

Hello everyone;

I am a brand new member and have never owned a corvette. Unfortunately, I recently test drove a C6 coupe. So you all know what happened. I would much prefer a convertible, and I was looking at maybe getting a slightly used 2004 C5. After finding this forum and reading everyone's comments to a similar question posed by another member, I decided that the C6 was a better idea. Now for my question. Would anyone here bother to purchase a new 2005 C6 convertible instead of ordering a new 2006 ?.....It does not seem to me that there is any significant savings in the price (if any at all), however, I live in northern Ohio and if I take delivery on a 2006 in late September or October, when do I get to drive it !!!.....I would probably have to park it in the garage for the next 6-7 months and just look at it every month when I write the check to pay the note !!!!!.......at least I could spend this summer driving a 2005..........I would like some solid advice from experienced vette owners on this......

thanks....

Dennis
(p.s.....what a great forum you have!)

With being this close to the end of the model year I would wait for the 2006. Unless you find one exactly the way you want it on the lot you are looking at a couple of months to get one. By that time the 2006's are going to be pretty close to rolling out. I would hold off, order exactly what you want and get and early year 2006.

Maybe it is me, but mid-may until Sept doesn't seem like so close to the end of the model year. Plus, depending upon what you want and a dealer you chose, you won't get a September car.
You really stated it, get one now and enjoy driving it this summer and fall or wait until maybe you get a taste and then put it away for the winter.
Of course it the one you want you can't get until August, then I'd want a big discount to buy.

Living in the North, there are 2 things to consider:
1) Do you want a Corvette for the summer of '05 or for the summer of '06. An ordered '06 would arrive possibly in October but more likely November or later.
2) Do you want manual or automatic transmission? An '06 manual trans Corvette will be the same as an '05 except for the steering wheel. But if you want automatic, the new '06 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters might appeal to you...even with possible constraints you would probably have it by next spring

I wouldn't order a 2005 this late in the model year. But I wouldn't hesitate to buy one off a lot if it was equipped the way I wanted. Otherwise, you lose an entire convertible driving season.

I had the same problem a year ago when I got my 04 Coupe. I wanted the 05, but the wait and the concept of having it just in time for winter didnt appeal to me. That ,plus they had the car I wanted on the lot. Put 5k miles on it before the winte set in.
Buy the car NOW>>...dont wait....as long as its the one you want!

It depends on how patient you are and how long you expect to keep it. Related to the first point, it is quite possible you would have trouble getting a 2006 in September. It could very well be October or November -- six or seven months out. If you order one now from a dealer with allocation, you can get a car in 6-8 weeks.

As for how long you plan to keep it... If you plan to keep the car for only a few years, you will get more money for it when you sell if you wait for the 2006.

Personally, if it were me, I'd go ahead and buy one now.

Well first of all, welcome aboard

Nobody can really answer that but you. I decided to wait and order an '06 model. But we have 12 mos of driving weather here. Two very good points have already been made:

1. do you want an auto tranny? If yes, it's probably worth waiting for the 6 speed

2. If not, then maybe you'll find one on a lot just like you wanted

Buy an in stock car from a dealer that gets a large allotment and enjoy your summer. I bought an in stock car off the lot equipped similar to what I would have ordered. No wait and lots of fun.

I have an 05 vert being built this week so I am excited about this summer driving. Having said that, if I had it to do over I would have waited for the 06 model because of the 6 speed with paddles. I think that kind of technology is going to be around for a long time (and get improved a little each year). If you are the patient type I suggest you wait. I am not patient and look forward to driving the heck out of my new vert all summer long. It's really up to you, but that's my .02.

Get the 'vert over the coupe for sure.

I did the coupe C6 and dis-liked the rear window so much that I traded-out and got a 'vert. Verts always hold the top $$$$. With the extra fun factor included.

Get the 05 now. 06 will be very close in options. Driver's wheel will change and that's about it. I bet the price will increase as well.

Find one now, don't wait. Enjoy it today. I'm sure you can make a good deal. If you order, it's hard to get any $$$ off. If you are NOT getting a 'vert. Get a 03-04 Z06. Fast/Fun car.

GOOD LUCK.
-Bill.

Having just picked up my vert a couple of weeks ago I gotta tell you that you're gonna love it. The most important thing in my opinion is getting exactly what you want. If a dealer has it in stock then there is no reason to wait for the 06 version. Need-for-speed has a good point about the new auto tranny for next year and it might be worth waiting for. Welcome and good luck.

Default check columbus ohio

In yesterday's Columbus Dispatch Jack Maxton Chevrolet in Columbus was advertising 3 verts in stock. Just got mine 3 weeks ago after selling my BMW M5. Don't miss out on any more fun just to get next years.
