Anyone have a mag red with painted calipers? Looking for red, preferrably mag red colored calipers...I know this is an after market job but curious if anyone has done it or thought about it...if you have, can you please post some pics? Thanks
I am out of town until the weekend, glad to post then. I went with the "chevrolet red" from WalMart (high temp engine paint) after using brake cleaner. Not sure it would pass the perfectionist's eye, but I think it is really sharp.

I don't have MR, but I did paint my calipers to match my DSOM.
I got a can of spray DSOM paint from Levine's (www.levineautoparts.com). It wasn't cheap ($25 shipped) but I think the finished product is pretty good.
I removed the calipers, took off the brackets (and brush painted them silver with Dupli-color caliper paint). I masked the whole wheel well area, hung the calipers by a wire in the wheel well and side of body, and sprayed them about 4 coats of DSOM and then 3 coats of clearcoat. I used pretty much the same procedure Docrings1 used and has posted in his FAQ files.
I think the MR is a 2-coat base coat (2 tint coats) procedure, then a clearcoat. Whether Levine's or other paint dealer can provide you with spray cans for the MR I don't know. Give 'em a call!
Here's a link to my picture gallery here on the forum with some before and after pics:
i'm also interested in panting my calipers on my mag red, but don't know if it would look wierd. Is there any other color that would look good on the caliper, other than mag red

That thread has my "DIY Step-by-step" guide to painting... use the chap-stick letter masking technique to preserve the factory machining marks on your letters.

Have a mag red vert but haven't painted the calipers yet; however, I did order from Levine auto parts the mag red paint for $19.95 plus a can of clear coat for $14.00 (this will have to be applied as a 2 part paint; i.e. base coat, clear coat) because mag red is a 3 stage paint process and the best way to replicate it without painting the calipers that way is with a 2 stage process-according to Levine(spk with Bob, a manager there). This way I can paint them on the car because I personally don't want to take the calipers off and then have to bleed the brakes later(way too much trouble) and this will look about just as good with a near mag red match! Oh, even before you buy from Levine web site posted by "beeseye", ask Bob to explain how to do the process as he was very thorough with me; in fact, he also said if I run into any problems while doing the process, just call him on the phone and he'll talk me thru any problems i run into. Sounds like this is the best way to go to match the calipers with the paint. Good Luck-Sal.

You've probably seen docrings1's posting in the FAQ files, but here it is if you haven't read it:
On page 1 are some pictures of him painting the rear caliper still mounted on the rotor, and on page 2 are pictures of him painting the front caliper after removing them from the rotor (but not from the brake line, so no bleeding required).
I did mine by taking the caliper and bracket off the rotor like docrings1 did his front calipers.
The only thing I would recommend (if Bob at Levine's didn't already recommend it) is to go to any auto parts store and get a can of spray brake cleaner. I used a can that came with a Dupli-color kit. It works real well to degrease and really clean up the calipers before you paint them.

Pics when you're done!!!

Bob,
Thanks for the post and also referencing DIY Caliper Painting's thread w/pics. That looks like how i"ll do it too. However, I won't need the spray cleaner, the car still only has 50 miles on it. Oh, and i never knew about using lipstip or chapstick on the "corvette" letters on the front calipers-good idea. I wasn't sure how I was going to tape up all those little letters-LOL. Anyway, that too will save me alot of time. Thanks again for the reply-very good info-Sal
Have a Victory Red Vert.
Was planning to do the calipers red, but maybe that's too easy.
anybody use yellow Duplicolor on a red Vette?
You guys think that's good or bad?

After I sprayed the calipers with about 4 coats of DSOM I used a razor blade scraper to scrape the paint off of the "Corvette" letters. I just kinda dragged it over the letters and it just pulled the paint right off perfectly. Then I sprayed with about 3 coats of clearcoat. I didn't want any chapstick goo to mess up the clearcoat sticking to the caliper.
When is someone going to offer powder coated calipers in Mag Red, Lemans Blue, etc.? I think there would be a real market for these, judging by what I've read on this forum and from fellow C6ers I've spoken to.

Bob, good point about the chapstick-another "point" I overlooked that regarding the clear coat application.
