CAVEAT! - Don't flame me for contents!
I found this at "How Stuff Works" and thought there are a few people on the forum that could gain insight by reading the article. OF COURSE it's VERY simplified and "gear heads" are gonna criticize it but I think it's worthwhile reading for some "non grear heads".

I also realize it PROBABLY should have been posted in the tech section but there are more readers here that will gain from it than those at "tech".
