You can push the start button with the clutch out to power up the ECM without engaging the starter. Then let it roll and pop the clutch and see if it starts.
The engine cannot start without ECM power to control spark and fuel injection. So this won't work with a dead battery. But it could be a useful trick to start a car with a bad starter.
