Default Clearcoat damage below mirror

I noticed a place on my passenger side door just below the bottom of the mirror bracket where the clearcoat has apparently been eaten away by soap residue. A streak of what must have been soap suds was also noticeable from the defect down the side of the door for about 3 - 4 inches. I always rinse my car thoroughly after washing it and even use a shop vac to pull excess water from the mirrors because I know water will fly all over the side of the car after it's washed if I don't. Has anyone else had this clearcoat problem? I use Blue Coral car wash concentrate on all of my cars and have never had a problem with any of them (including the C5 I traded in for this C6 and the C5 I still own). I plan to take the car to the dealer and see what satisfaction I can get.

Have you tried polishing the area?

I don't think polishing is gonna help. The clearcoat is definitely damaged. It's down to the base coat. The place isn't very big but up until now, this car didn't have a spot on it.

Soap can not eat away clear coat. Especially diluted from when you washed you car.

If the clearcoat is damaged, it probably did not come from the soap and/or water. If what you are seeing is from the soap and/or water, a good cleaner then wax should take care of the spots (it may have to be buffed if what you are seeing is water spots that etched into the paint).

I would try some 3M Swirl Mark Remover on it.

I agree. The soap should not be acidic enough to remove clearcoat but something sure did. I wish I had taken a photo of the damage before wiping off the soap streak. I'll take a photo of the area and try to post it here later. Thanks for all of your help.

I agree.

I believe what happened is some jealous malevolent has spit a big luigi on your mirror/door. Human saliva CAN damage your paint, and if the beetle-brain snorts a big one, you get the bubbly texture. Sorry, dude...we live in a very imperfect world.

Don't touch it! You'll make it a lot worse!

I have the exact same problem near my left front wheel.

Turns out is is a spot where too much clearcoat was applied and it dries in an opaque, bubby, manner versus clear.

I had the area airbrushed and it came out perfect!

Take it to the dealer!

What part of TN are you in (I am in TN) , I would like to see the damage. Try a clay bar, is the spot rough?

Hendersonville (just north of Nashville). the spot is rough. I'm taking it to the dealer next week to see what they'll do about it.
