Can someone help educate me to exactly what the different settings actually: 1) do to the car, and 2) what driving conditions they are best suited for.
I have read the owner's manual and played around with the car - I got it really sideways with Comp Mode and thought I wasn't suppose to be able to do that .... so what is the difference with that and AH Off ??
AH and TC off: You can get it sideways and spin it all the way around.
Comp mode: You can get it sideways to a point, like 45 degrees or something but not 90. You won't go totally out of control
AH and TC on: You won't get sideways at all.
AH off and TC off: Its all up to you. If you loose it, you might not get it back under control until you hit something.
AH = Active handling. There are several input for this. Steering position, throttle position and each wheels spin rate. But the one that does the most is under the radio system and detects your yaw rate (rate of spin). There is also a gforce meter under the passanger seat if memory serves that helps detect lateral Gs in comparison to the yaw rate. AH kicks in and adjusts throttle and each wheels brakes if it determines you are reaching depature.
TC = Traction control. Simply there to keep the rear wheels from spining all day long under high torque or slick roads.
AH & TC OFF = no computer assist and you are along for the ride.
Comp Mode = AH ON & TC OFF and this allows you wheel spin on launch as well as partial catching of induced spins. BUT it will NOT catch all spins. I learned that enough from auto-crossing
Like AH/TC off. I am 55 years of age and grew up driving ill-handling 428 cobra jets and 440 magnums. I f I was stupid enough to mess up--it was all on me. Now that I am ''MATURE'' I don't want some computor kicking in and robbing power. Frankly you will tend to drive more like an idiot when you get ''rescued'' Unless it is wet the first thing I do is hold that button down.

I'm not saying that alot of folks don't know how to drive a high performance car, BUT Nearly all of my customers that have crashed their Corvettes (by themselves) have had the AH and TC turned off. It is sad, that one dumb move can ruin a perfectly good car. You need to learn your limitations and the car's potential in a safe place, then consider turning the AH & TC off.
What I am saying is, IMHO you should NEVER rely on the AH & TC to save your butt (like a pair of training wheels). Rather drive the car as if it didn't have those safety features (and have the good feeling that you get from wearing a parachute while flying a stunt plane, if things should get ugly).
