I just had Red Splash Guards installed on my Red Coupe and as on the C5s I had I think they look Fine....and it certainly beats the Chiping that I have seen on other Vettes inluding a Silver one I saw today which was in for Service.......I put the Red Calipers on, Red Door Handles, Red Rear Brake Light and Red License Plate on and EVERBODY who has seen the Car loves the Changes......there is just enough Black Left to make the Red Stand out........I know Puriest don't like Mud Guards but they serve a Purpose and thats Why GM is putting them on all the new ZO6"s. and please tell us where you got your red guards -- I would never put black ones on my VR Vert, but you might talk me into it if they had color-matched red ones. Have never seen them, and didn't know they were selling them.
I to have been looking for the molded painted mud guards for the C6. What's the Altec web address? The only place I've seen them is at Mid America. They have them for the C5 and earlier versions.
I bought them for my C6 DSOM coming in later this month. Got them from ZIP...just came online...Memorial Weekend. Even though I don't have my Vette yet...the color matches my other GM Accessories in DSOM...like the interior dash pieces...door handles....spoiler...license frame...etc....I was going to buy the clear plastic for the fenders...but this is more durable and more custom looking. Since when can't a Vette have Custom Splash Guards. It's your car...customize it, to BE YOURS!
I tried to get them today from Zip ....All colors on backorder and just so your aware must drill to install. No target date for arrival from Altec......
I'm pretty happy with the Cleartastic stuff. A bit expensive, but totally custom cut. After the first time you put it on, it will continue to get easier and easier. For now I'm going with this.
I really don't think you can see where it is in these photos.
In real life, you can see the line where it is, if you are less than 2 feet from the car and really looking for it, I believe.
area behind from wheels protected -- can't see it:
this entire rear area circled is covered with the cleartastic -- can't see it.

If you get caught out in a heavy rain, they will release and start to come off, I discovered this after driving 2 hours in a heavy rain, they release and flop around, then the inside(paint side) gets pitted from the road grime, when you reinstall, air bubbles will be under the material, since the pitts trap air and then dry. They do keep down the gravel problems and I agree, expensive.
yep -- haven't had much use in heavy rain yet, but I believe you are correct. I did have one start to flop off -- so when I saw it, pulled it off and took it home to reapply later that day.
Not a perfect solution, but a good one. I'll use them until they all fly off and get lost, I suppose.
For those drivers who haven't tried Cleartastic, the big issue here is that there is NO adhesive at all holding these things on. They just stick pretty much by vacuum effect. You apply with water, squeegie the water out, and they just stick in place. Makes applying them easier, because you can just move them around and reapply. But also a disadvantage because the application is not permanent at all.
