OK, I know we're talking subjectively here, but here's the real question. Apart from the heavy hitters (Kerbeck, etc.), what is the average number of Corvettes a dealer receives? My dealer in Richmond told me they are the #1 seller in the area and this year they will receive about 10. Should be the same next year.
I want to order an 06 vert and am number one on the list. Based on the allocation numbers mentioned, any idea of where I fall on the almighty "allocation chain", or better yet, when I could expect to receive my car?
If I understand the facts, your dealer gets/sells 10 vettes a year. And assuming he gets 10 next year, he sells about 1 per month. If no one is in front of you then you should get your vette fairly quickly in the new model year.
My memory tells me that the big hitters sell 500 - 600 a year. The dealer I am using for my Z06 maybe sells 100 per year. How the difference in quantities affects allocation/distribution of cars, especially cars under constraint is a mystery to me ( and many of the dealers). This may affect your order also.
"My dealer in Richmond told me they are the #1 seller in the area"
That was under a thread titled about the most common dealership lies....dealership tells you the are the largest Corvette dealer in the, World, Coast, State, County, "area", City. 90% of the time they are wrong and know it!!!
I would not risk it if I was you. If you are hot to get an 06 when they first roll off the line I would go to a Forum dealer. 10 is not that many "though more than some" and that is considering if they really have 10 allocations.
The only way "I" would risk it is if they are giving you a killer deal off MSRP. Other than that go for the sure thing.
Our club sponsor in San Antonio is allocated 42 per year at this point. It took them 2.5 weeks to get mine through to order acceptance. Larger dealers probably get weekly allocations. A dealer with 10 gets an average of less than 1 per month. You may be first on his list but he may be way down the list on the dealer pecking order. It depends on the plant and what they want to produce any given week. It is probably somewhat of a science but nothing that a dealer can predict.
Ask your dealer when they received their first C6 last fall. As they are starting 2006 coupe and vert production later (Sept. 9th) this year, add about 4 weeks to the answer you get from your dealer.
Do yourself a great big favor. Order your vette from Kerbeck for museum delivery. You'll get it quick, quick, quick. They'll treat you great, and I understand (will find out latter this month) that the NCM delivery experience can't be beat.
