The driver had to drop back to 5th gear to reach 180 indicated. The desert temp must of been the limfac to the 190 advertised. If this was a Z51 car (which it appears) the gearing may indicate that 6th is simply a milage gear. Even at the right temps I doubt that 6th would of brought the car up another 10mph (probably 15-17 mph) faster to meet the advertised (real)188 mph. I know that mine does not pull in 6th over 150 indicated. Any thoughts?

Two lane road, uneven pavement, with traffic in the right lane. That's not where I'd want to be hitting 180mph...in any car.

Interesting video to watch though.

What an absolute idiot this guy is (was if he's not still alive).

I like to drive fast, but there is no excuse for hitting those speeds on an open road. Your reaction time is zero. He could have easily killed several families with his antics.

And this is the 2nd such video on the same road. The guy laughs at the end in the other one, too.

No offense, but that is old news going back to 1997 C5. Top gear has always been in 5th. 6th doesn't have the ***** to beat drag force.

And I agree with the other comments. The driver is a major jackass, the kind that gives all of us a bad name. I am willing to stretch the rules and go that fast on a public road, but only if I am the only one on the road, as far as the eye can see, in either direction.

I like driving fast but never would I consider such speeds on that type of road, or those conditions.

Everyone is such a tight *** when it comes to driving fast on public roads.

I would never do it with traffic on either side but I have when I am alone and will do it again.

I'll agree with you on that. My point was 180 flying by station wagons and campers, there's no chance to react.

Desolate roads meaning NO other traffic at that kind of speed. If I risk MY life it's one thing but NOT Others.

Once the video shows the road outside, it sure doesn't look like 180mph to me.

My guess is he found some way to switch to metric mode on the speedometer (kph) but have the display still say MPH. If that was the case, 180kph indicated would actually be going 112mph which is about what it looks like he is doing to me.

Might be wrong. Of course if he really was going 180mph, I agree he is a moron to do it on a road with other cars.

He's a jackass, and w/ any luck cops will catch him next time he does that. If there was an animal in the road and the camper moved over three feet, a serious and deadly tragedy would've occurred.

He should be driving a ford fiesta running on two cylinders.

Glad someone else brought that up. Last time I was at 160 it was so fast that there were no spaces between the lines on the road. i mean, it was so fast that it looked like a solid line. And at 180, I would expect that they would REALLY fly past the one car.
