Any relatively dark and unpoliced part of town, probably. OnSpy can find the car later though.
As a shrink, I find it interesting that I assumed this interpretation first instead of Swancoat's. Hmmm. Not sure if that's more negative toward me or him. Maybe I'm more paranoid than he is horny...
So, is jacking at the #3 spot passenger side to do an oil change a bad idea?
#3 = the jack puck locations.
Not a bad idea. plenty of guys to that. The only reason I don't is because my jack does not have a cup that is big enough to hold the jack pucks. If your jack will hold the jack pucks securely, it's ok to jack there. Make sure you put a jack stand or two under the car of course.
What works great for me is this: just jack the entire car front up with one jack.
"B" is the area labelled "2" in the diagram. My jack location is in front of that.
this is not even noted on that diagram as an option, but it works great. No damage to the car, have done it about 10 times already.

My jack has a big enough cup, it's mack daddy Big Red NASCAR dual piston jack. And, by all means jack stands go in fore and aft and the wife spots the jack (I'm spotting next time ) just to be sure. By jacking it up on the passenger side the drain plug is now pointed downward being on the drivers side and drains everything. I did it for the first time and it took me all of about 10 minutes, so easy.
If this diagram is correct, then when lifting the rear of the vehicle, it must be done one side at a time. Putting a floor jack in the center of the rear crossmember and lifting the entire rear is a no no. Also, the front can be lifted by a floor jack in the center, using the second crossmember (near the oil pan?) and not the first (mine doesn't reach that far).
There have been a few posts that do not following the jacking points in this diagram. Does anyone know where this diagram came from?
What's wrong with lifting the entire car from the rear at one time?
Just changed my oil for the 1st time. Used race ramps for the front and a low profile jack with a 4x4 wood block that is about the width of the rear cross member and jacked away. Use the race ramp blocks under rear tires after lifted.
Not an expert by any means, but seemed to work fine for me on my GS. If I'm not doing this right, I'd sure like to know now before I damage something.

This method is OK but you should insert jacking pucks into the rear rocker panels and lower the car onto Jack stands. I wouldn't crawl under the car relying on the hydralic jack.

The race ramp blocks (wheel cribs) go under the rear tires are are a cradle type. They are about 15"L x 12"W x 8" high, http://raceramps.com/images/wheel-cribs-race-ramps.jpg so they fully support the rear of the car not the jack. I totally agree that just the jack is unsafe.
I realize you can't pull your tires/wheels with this method, but if it's something that requires that, I will probably get a mechanic to do the work. I am basically just looking to change oil and simple things like this.
Thanks,

Alright so all I want to do is take off one tire at a time so I can paint the brake calipers. Can I not use the jack point on the side of the car?
I just got the car a week ago, so i just want to be sure of what I can and can not do. From the sounds of the thread, the car can only be jacked up from the center?
