Default Roof Package Question

Does The C6 Come With A Removeable Painted Roof Or Do You Have To Buy The Roof Package To Get The Painted Removeable Roof? Also Is It Worth The Extra Cash To Get The Transparent Roof? I Welcome Anyones Feedback. Thanks.

Whether the transparent roof is worth it would be up to you. If your car has to sit out in the sun for very long at a time during the summer time, it probably wouldn't be worth it to you.

However, I had it on my Precision Red coupe and I really liked it.

Standard is the painted roof for no extra charge. If you pay $750, you can get the transparent roof INTEAD OF the painted roof. For $1400, you can get both roofs.

I purchased my black C6 back in November with a painted top. I bought the transparent top later, thinking I would use the transparent top in the winter and the solid top in the summer when it gets much warmer here in North Carolina. So far I have only used the transparent top. I keep thinking it might be time to switch, but the car does not sit outside all day very often and when it does, it does not seem too hot inside.

As SilverCoupe pointed out, the painted roof is what comes standard on the car. The cars that you, Kerbeck, and others may have with the transparent roof only will show it as option code CC3 at an M.S.R.P. of $750.

Well I say if you want both tops do not order both tops with car.

Get the standard painted top, then order the clear top through the parts department of a forum vendors or local dealership.

It is cheaper this way. By getting the standard top and then buying the clear top later, you essentially can get both tops for several hundred bucks more than if you had just ordered the clear top option.

And don't make the mistake of buying your C6 with the transparent top only thinking you can pick up a painted top later. It will be difficult to say the least.

I bought mine with only the transparent top - couldn't find the color I wanted any other way, and didn't want to wait on an order. It gets pretty darn hot inside. I bought a static cling sunscreen from MidAmerica - about 25 bucks. Put it on yesterday in about 10 minutes with no problem. Temperature today was in the low 90's. The sunscreen made a huge difference. Car was hot (naturally) when I came out from work, but cooled off comfortably in about 10 minutes with the AC. The 40 minute drive home was comfortable. Now if I could only find something for the rear deck window.

I have both however leave the transparent on as I enjoy the view and it seems to opens up the cockpit.

I had painted on my C5...wanted it on the C6, but couldn't find it with the color combinations I wanted. Now I will never be with out the transparent top...I drive with the top off all the time, and this is a nice substitue when I can't. Get it, but be sure to get the second painted top...I wish I had a spare LMB top.

On that note, any sellers of a LMB top? If it is sitting collecting dust, let me know.

I had both tops on my C5 coupe, and I eventually wound up just using the transparent top all of the time. Even in the middle of the Summer in Houston I thought it was great. The only time it was an issue was when I was stuck in traffic at high noon when the temp was over 100F.

No, sorry, don't have any pictures of the interior. Here's a slightly larger picture of my avatar. Also, here are some pictures that someone else on the forum posted. Maybe they will help. Sorry about helping with the hijacking of this thread.

I have a white C6 that came with both tops and living in Dallas Tx I nixed any summer use for the transparent top. I have used the transparent tops on previous corvettes and it would get too hot in the summer. It's been the high 90's here and a few low 100's already I have the transparent top on because I like the looks better BECAUSE I haven't found it to be a problem. The A/C system while not trouble free has a high output and possibly the UV ratings on the top are better. Even after the car has been sitting in the sun I crank the A/C up with recirc on and it's comfortable in no time at all and I like it cold. The engineering folks did OK on this one in my view!
