Okay, this may sound a bit odd but I'll ask the experts. As I got in my car last week and went to push the start button I noticed that there is what appears to be a perfect crack on the bottom of the green illuminated ring...imagine looking at the green circle and on the bottom, exactly in the center, there is a thin, hairline crack that is perfectly centered on the bottom of the ring and appears to go up about 1/8 of an inch inside the circle and outside from top to bottom...does anyone else notice this?
I'm by no means an expert, but I would suggest letting your dealer look into getting a replacement. Sounds to me like an item that would be covered by the warranty, and I would assume that even a lesser experienced service department could replace it without messing up anything else.
I have not seen any posts about a cracked start button, so I have got to think that it is a rather isolated case as opposed to a design flaw.
Thanks for the advice...that's what I was thinking as well...with 208 people viewing my post so far I was really hoping some people could take a minute or two to go and see if theirs is the same or not.
The real question is: do you want your friendly chevy service people to remove things to get to it and replace, thereby opening yourself to rattles and squeeks when they put it back together? My 1/2 cents worth is to leave the small stuff alone.

All you have to do is grab the pod/dash assembly from the bottom edge and pull. Slowly work your way up to the pods and work top to bottom or left to right.
Removing your dash takes the whole sum of 2 minutes or less.
I have removed mine several times to have the dash covered in leather.
