If your car is an automatic, the best(and cheapest) go mod is a higher torque converter. I did this to my 04 & it made a world of difference off the line. I have one on order for my 05 & can hardly wait! Depending on your diff ratio now you will drop from .4 to .6 of a second on your quarter mile times from this mod alone.
Start by removing everything you can from the interior. Radio, passenger seat, carpet, etc. Now take off the air conditioner compressor and put on a new belt that will fit. Remove license plate frames and engine covers. If you see any bolts, nuts, or anything else that you don't think is necessary, take those off too.
Total cost: One serpentine belt.
Not positive, but I think the a/c belt is a seperate belt just for itself. you could just not turn on the a/c, but removing the belt would save you the weight of the thing.
Also, try driving DOWNWIND.
I agree with most:
1) ABSOLUTELY cheapest is to remove weight
2) tires are critical. no mater what you do engine and gear wise; the power hits the pavement through the tires.
3) if it is an automatic, a high stall TC should be on the top of your list.
4) gears next
5) best bang for the buck after that is NOS
You guys who suggested tires did not read his post very well. He indicated that he is talking about all around performance - not drag racing from a dead stop.
Nitrous - again, great for drag racing, but extremely limited in everyday driving situations (is it on, how much in the bottlle....)
Best bang for the buck is gears. Second is headers and tuning. Just my .02, of course.

I suspect better tires would help lap times on a track too. Just a thought.

Since when are better tires only good for drag racing? hahah
Investing in a better set of tires will definitely help the performance of your car, I would look into that if I were you.
NITROUS(not NOS, that is the name of a company that distributes NITROUS products) is the least epxensive mod with the most gains. I would say you could spend just over a grand on a system and run a 100 shot pretty safely.

Stickier tires will in no way help him do what he's asking for.
Tires only help in low-traction situations such as launching from a stop or turning. But that's not what his post is asking about.
I'll requote the original post for those who didn't read it: "Yes, I know that the C6 has incredible acceleration but I really like knowing I have MORE than enough pedal to pull around, into, away from busy traffic if needed."
In such a case rear gears or a self-installed-and-tuned cam are the cheapest mods for the desired result. Nitrous only works while you still have some in the tank and to keep using it you have to keep paying.
I put 4.10's in my C5 (MN6) and frankly, all I noticed was that I wound out sooner - but not really noticably quicker...In my opinion only, this mod is not worth it.
My plan is LT headers & BB Route 66 exhaust, a FAST intake (once it's designed to fit the C6 without any cutting), and a tune. Should be good for about 50HP based on what reliable people have reported..
