I placed an order for a z51 coupe back in May. The dealer told me it would be about 6 weeks until I have the car and took $1000 deposit by credit card. It seemed to be a very good deal -- about $4200 off msrp. He recently gave me a production date of Jul 25 (about 8-9 weeks after the order). When I asked him about the time frame, he claimed he told me something different originally. He has never given me an order number and has not gotten back when I asked him for it.
There is a very short driving season here in the northeast. The car is worth much more in July than September, aside from the brutal wait and loss of limited driving time (loss of value to me). The deal was worth much more at the time frame he first claimed than it is now (and may be much worse).
Give 'em 5 days to give you the info you want or tell him you're going to report him and the dealership to the State's Attorney General for unfair and deceptive trade practices. In addition, go onto the state's corporate website and try to find out who owns the dealership-it should list their home address. Tell him or them if more than one person owns the dealership the same thing. AND then follow thru on it. If you have to write to the state's attorney general, send copies to the dealership. Also, see if the state has a consumer advocate/protection department and an automobile dealer regulatory dept. Advise them by phone and in writing of your problems, again with copies to the dealership.
This happens way too often. These salesman will take your deposit knowing their dealership does not have any allocations. They are holding your deposit and hoping for an allocation soon. In the meantime, you're going nuts wondering
.... He has never given me an order number and has not gotten back when I asked him for it.
.....
What The dealer had an order # as soon as it was placed. Tell him you want it NOW while you are on the phone. It's in the file folder he has for you. Also ask for your Event Code.
Wouldn't $4200 off MSRP be a great deal in any month??? I know what you mean though about the loss of driving time. I'm feelin ya there! But it still seems like a good price, but since its a coupe I'm not sure what the norm is. I had to pay sticker for my vert and didn't even question it, but maybe better deals are expected on the coupes?
I'll show my stupidity again here. Are you saying that not just any Chevy dealer can take your order for a Vette, that it has to have an allocation for that order to go through? And unless I go through Kerbeck to order my Vette, I am just taking a local yokel dealer at his word if he says he can get it and has the allocation?

Every dealer has some allocation of Vette. It is based on how many Vettes the dealer has sold in the past few years. Every dealer knows exactly when and how many Vetts they can order.
You don' t have to go to Kerbeck or any specific dealer to place your order. You can place your order with any dealer that has allocation. You can request from your dealer to show you his allocation document.

What are my options at this point?
Bottom line is that if he had your order into the factory, he could easily and willingly give you the order number. He is leading you on.
There "ain't" no chillin about this predicament juiceman unless you've got a lot of money and time to throw away getting the run around from a dealer. Are you related to the dealer??!! Facts are, when someone, no matter who, thinks they can give you a screwin', you better take it to the limit and let them know where you stand. I suggest you take another look at what's happening here and decide whether you're a man or something else.
