I was considering pushing for the Magnetic Selective Ride on a new c6 . One of my criticisms of the c6 is that the ride is a little teeth chattering around some of New England cities less than steller road surfaces. On the Hwy - hey - the world is great.
Does anyone on this forum have the MSR Control? How soft does the soft setting ride? How sporty is the hard setting???
Well, it all depends on what kind of driving you will be doing and what kind of ride you want. I road tested all 3 suspensions and while all were smooth to some extent, this is the order i found them to be: Z51-the "hardest", which was not hard at all, really.
the MSR Control-not hard and not soft
and the standard suspension: the softest of the three. Even so, this ride is not soft, per say, but is still firm and will handle most of the challenges. This is what I chose because 1. I will not take the car on any type of road course, rallys, cones, etc. and 2. I will basically be cruisen in my vert. just enjoying the ride of being in a corvette. Yes, I wanted the smoothest ride for my money. And you know what? I am 100% happy with the ride. You can always improve on what you have if you start with the basic ride, if thats what you find out after you get the car, but its harder i think to go backwards and smooth out a ride. So, if you can figure out what your wants and needs are before hand, then you'll know which ride to choose. You should road test all 3 for yourself and not go by what people say on the net; all mean well, but we all have different tastes and want different things from the same car.
Good Luck

Carthinker,I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada range in N.Ca.,and our roads are not exactly stellar either. Most repairs seem to consist of a shovel full of blacktop in the pothole, followed by a good boot stomp for grins!I have MSRC and absolutely love it.I added the Z51 bars for great transient response, but spend most of the time in "tour" mode because not only is the suspension more compliant, the car seems much quieter inside as well.I liked the overall package, with the not so aggressive(and hopefully longer lasting) Goodyears, and the quiet brakes that put out negligible dust on the wheels.I too never intend to track my car.Good luck on your decision. No matter which way you go,you will be getting a great car!

Which C6 did you drive to say it is teeth chattering? I cannot speak for the Z51 (Z guys chime in) but the F55 has no chatter. This is my fist Vette and that is the reason I purchsed it- no chatter or cowl shake! Let me know what your are referring to..
Hard to get a car that has both....excellent handling and smooth ride. Only a hand-full of cars on this planet that can do both well. I think the f55 set up is your happy medium. Add some z51 sway bars and you should be happy with that set up.
I had a C6 with Z51 that I put 3,000 miles on. I now have a C6 with F55 that I have about 1,200 miles on. The more I drive the F55 the more I like it. I only got it because I ran across a deal I couldn't pass up. But now, I think it's my favorite supsension.
It rides good, but even in the softer "tour" mode, it firms up exactly when it needs to so you get no "floatiness" at all. And it firms up in cornering also. I've really become a believer in this system.

Hi! I drove the dealer's "test driving" c6 w/the regular suspension. The car had low miles, but was the sacrificial lamb. In fairness, I'd been looking all over for a car to drive since I need an automatic. I'd like to say that's because of my wife, and it is, but truth be told, I'm OK with it too. Traffic being what it is. When I gunned the car, the front lifted fairly dramatically. That was both impressive (what a WOW kick), but also troubling. I would have expected the underpinnigs to compensate. My regular car, an Audi A8, has an adjustable air suspension that I love. There's a silver Vert w/Mag up at the same dealership. I'm going to get up there this week. I'm hoping that's more to my liking - although I'd prefer a coupe.
I have the F55 suspension and have found that the longer I have the car the more I can tell the difference between tour and sport modes. It may sound strange but I think both modes need a little time to "break in". Or else I needed the time to get accustomed to the difference. I think F55 offers the best of both worlds, and like others I have ordered the Z51 sway bars for driving the twisties. Any suspension will give you a great car. Enjoy!
I have the MSRC, and I love it. The ride in Tour mode is really comfortable, but it still handles very well in the curves. Sport mode is even better in the twisties, with just a little sacrifice in comfort. There's a great demo film at the NCM in Bowling Green where you can see how much better the car with MSRC hugs the road on uneven surfaces -- the damping is really impressive vs. the standard suspension.
I believe that it may take some time and mileage before you notice a significant difference between tour and sport. These modes change the computer algorithms, so it's not a huge difference as though you are switching the whole system on and off. You will definitely notice a difference between the standard/Z51 suspensions compared to the MSRC system. On one GM test track, the standard C6 wheels were 18 inches off the ground coming out of a dip compared to the C6 MSRC wheels never leaving the ground.
F55 is a great system, but it is costly up front, and down the road when maintenance is required. I opted for the base suspension, and added Z51 sways. Fits my butt just fine. Nice cushy ride, but good control in the turns. The Z51 is much more compliant this year than in past years, but it is still a touch harsh for someone who wants the car as a daily driver over poorly maintained city streets.

I've had the same experience. I also notice more of a difference at higher speeds than low.
I like high tech stuff and it has a cool **** to turn on the console.
After reading this article it helped me decide on the F-55 as it is having an

Safety device that keeps all 4 wheels planted and it will be the most comfortable ride. I wanted the best smoothest ride that I could get so I went F-55 and if I want better handling I switch it to sport.

I hate to admit it too, but I'm a cruiser too. I love have super acceleration to get on the highway, but I'm not the guy who's going to be taking wild turns or finding my way to a track. If I ever did, I'm not sure what the hell I'd do there anyway! Maybe look for a nearby starbucks.
So, there's no real upside to having me get bounced around. I like what you guys are saying about the Mag suspension.

I have had the F55 coupe now for about 3 months and 1000 miles. Here is my take. The ride in 'tour' is not "floaty" in any way. If feels plush and solid and still very much a sport suspension. In fact the ride at usual highway speeds is very similar in either setting. The initiation of cornering is flatter in 'sport' but can be overcome when holding a tight corner or very aggressive cornering. Entering and coming out of a corner is sharper in 'sport. My wife could easily verify this in the passenger seat.
Around corners, the car can feel chattery on rough roads. The MSRC does not really help this as it is beyond the rate of damping (from what I have read). I think the runflat tires have much to do with the hard ride in this situation.
Overall, I like the f55 option. I think it is a comfortable ride and the damping control does have some effect on the handling. I have the z51 swaybars but they are not yet installed. I'll let you know how they feel when I eventually get around to putting them on.
