I only have about 260 miles on the car and lately had time to start noticing different things. For example, the coolant temp. seems to stay around 199-201 degrees. Is this normal for the C6 (during the break-in period)? Not that the break-in period should matter. I installed a billet aluminum grill recently and I think the car was running around the same temp before but I'm not sure. Would appreciate any imput on this so I can be sure the car isn't driving on the hot side with this grille installed.
You have a 195 degree F thermostat. Normal coolant temps can range from 190 to 225 degrees F. You will get a DIC "Coolant Over Temperature" message at 255 degrees.
Ahhhhhhhhh Good! Looks like the grille I installed has not affected the normal cooling capacity of the car. With the a/c off, its normal temp. seems to be 199-201 degrees F. Thanks, I feel better now-whew(as they say, eh?)!
Thanks alot y'all; according to your input, my C6 seems to be operating in the normal range(yours too, I guess) or were all over heating
At least now I can put that issue to rest; mine is auto, vert. base suspension and by the way, this is with the air off. Matter of fact, I've only used the air one time so far. Hard to put the damn top up. Great Car.
New Corvette magazine had an article about some C6 mods, including a 160 degree thermostat. Forget who was doing the mods (Cartech), but they made a heck of a difference with performance. Their main problem was the computer control. Appears there may be something in the works that'll hit the market later on. You might want to check the latest issue.
Don't worry about anything under 215dF, and don't really worry until it gets above 220dF. These engines are designed to run hot, and the hotter they run the more efficient they become (fuel economy wise). Mine sees about 205s in traffic in Texas 102dF days.
