I'm very dissapointed today to learn more about a corvettes downside of which my Dad told me about. He told me about the economically poor gas and the high insurance due to the great performance of the car. I really wish I could convince my Dad about how great a C6 corvette is. This is my dream car. Anyway, is all this true about the gas? And how can I convince him into a corvette?
Get a job and pay for it with your own money. Then tell dad to get his facts straight. On the other hand, maybe you're very young, in which case, maybe dad is just trying to keep you alive.

I have had to pay a premium for insurance on the corvette due to it's plastic body. One has to stay ticket free to keep insurance under control too. I believe that the C5 gets better mileage than the C6 so go for a used one. Less insurance that way too.

Hmm..Dunno about that i think the C6 gets better gas mileage.
I have a job. I'm not asking my Dad to buy it. He won't let me waste my money on it. (And I don't appreciate that comment. Cut me some slack) EDIT: If you meant any offense
Aha! I have a V6 mustang. So I guess I thought the C6 had less gas then that.

I'm only one data point, but my C6 definitely gets worse gas mileage than my C5 did. My C5 got 22-23 on the country roads around where I live. The C6 gets 19-20.
Your kidding me right? Is this April Fool's Day or something. No offense, but anyone that needs their Dad's approval to buy their car should not be buying a Vette. Camaro, Trans Am or Mustang. You will just drive up our insurance premiums eventually.

Sometimes Fathers do know what's best. When I graduated from college, I took a well paying job near my parents home, and moved back in with them. I told my Dad that I was going to buy a Vette (it has been my dream car since I was 13). He responded by saying,"I hope you can sleep in it, cause I'll kick your a$$ out if you do." He advised me to buy a house instead.
At the time I was dissapointed about not getting the Vette, But it was the best thing I could have done. I Just sold that 1st house after 13 years of owning it, made a 500% profit from it, then purchased a c6. I had to wait a few years for the car, but it was worth it.
Thanks Dad

Your dad needs to get his facts stright . Gas Mileage is not bad . It cost me more to insure My TT with only 225 Hp . Do not convince him let him buy something else . NO SOUP FOr YOU

Well, the arguments are bogus. My C6 gets 28 MPG highway and nearly 23 MPG in the city. That's better than a lot of other cars, and any SUV. My insurance premium also went *down* when I traded a 350Z in for the Corvette. Still not cheap, but $870 a year in Atlanta isn't bad. Of course I'm 56 with no speeding tickets. A young fellow, especially if you have tickets, will pay much more.
The bigger issue is that the Corvette is an expensive car. Sure, it is cheap compared to the likes of Ferrari, but it is a lot of money for a young man just starting out to swing. Cars are depreciating assets, at your time of life you'd do better to invest your money in something that will increase in value, stocks, bonds, property, etc. Then when the car purchase won't be a financial strain, go for it.

Honestly, I don't know what's with some of you and my personal life. I've moved out, got an apartment for now, and working on a house. A vette will come after and my Dad is advising me not to get a vette at all.
I just want to let my Dad know that a vette is what I want. And I'll say this again in caps and in bold
I DO NOT NEED MY DAD'S APPROVAL EDIT: This is for some people who haven't realized
He is simply telling me how expensive it will be gas wise, insurance wise, and the car alone. I visit him and we talk (I do not live with him)
EDIT: I appeciate the people who did support me with corrections.
