On the way home yesterday, I swear the audio got considerably louder, for no appearant reason (sitting in stop & go traffic with the windows down & roof off). This caused my aftermarket amp to clip & go into protect mode. This (seemed) to happen twice within a few minute period.
Previously, I could never detect any changes induced by AVC.
Afterwards, I turned AVC off & turned the volume down a bit.
Yours is the first one I've read that did that. Several say they can't tell any volume change with AUTO VOL on, but I can with mine (coupe). However, the dealer is going to replace mine for another problem (no sound, occasionally) in about a week.

Anyone else experience strange AVC behavior?
C5 automatic volume control was tied into the speedometer, and volume rose with speed. At the C6 introduction at the Birthday Bash in '04 we were told that the C6 actually senses cockpit noise and reises the volume accordingly. The old system had no way of knowing if you had top and windows down or if the car was closed up. Was there a Harley with straight pipes nearby?
