Most of this has been hashed out to death on the Z06 thread---
Very simple: Dave Hill a week ago at the Sonoma ALMS race stated that like the C5 program, there have been and will be improvements with the C6. Due to a media blackout he would not discuss the exact improvements but confirmed there have been some improvments in the 2006 C6 over the 2005 C6. The blackout for the media goes sometime into August (no specific date given-figure August 30th) and it wouldn't be fair for him to 'scoup' the media that has been following the info blackout properly.
At Sonoma Dave Hill did confirm 3 major events.
(1) The 2006 Z06 with a professional race driver (Jan M) at the helm has run the Nurbergring at 7 minutes and 43 seconds (net couch potatos are now arguing if the time was a flat 7' 43" or a 7' 42.9")
(2) The internet list showing "Ring" times is wrong--it lists Dave Hill as running the Ring for time--Dave was real clear that he has never done so and is not qualified to do so..
(3) The IMPROVED 2006 C6 Z51 in the hands of a professional race driver has run the Ring in 7 minutes and 59 seconds..meeting their goal of finally breaking the 8 minute mark in a production C6 (as oposed to the Z06 which is a considered a limited production vehicle). For the hard of reading--there have been improvements in the 2006 C6 over the 2005 model and the 2006 C6 Z51 has officially broken 8 minutes at the Ring with a run of 7'59".

Sounds like some suspension tweaks for the 06.....

Sport Auto is a good magazine but that they only got 8:15 in a 2005 C6 sounds to me like a bad time.......
There is one page were they discuss the C6 aerodynamics and said that the C6 has 119 lbs of lift at the front and 61 lbs of lift at the rear.....
I have never heard the C6 front and rear axle lift coefficients.....
Quick note--as to the Sport auto time--they were running a 2005 C6....The 7' 59" time was for the 'improved' 2006 C6 Z51. As there have been some changes made in the 2006 over the 2005 that would account for some of the time difference...I haven't read the Sport Auto piece--who was driving??? That 2006 C6 Z51 time of 7'59" was THE BEST time, it was done with Jan Magansun (spelling?) one of the best European Road Racing drivers in the world behind the wheel--and he knows the Ring....
Dave Hill at Sonoma was very specific as to the time being done by a 2006 car as the 2005 was never run for an official time at the Ring--I suspect it was but as it didn't break 8 minutes they felt they had nothing to shout about, thus kept their mouths shut and went about making changes in order to break the mark with the 2006 car...as per above--I also suspect some suspension (shocks) tweaks for the 2006 car that 99.9% of drivers will not really notice...

I cant belive that the C6 05 did it in 8:15 and C6 06 has such a big improvement that it knocked off 16 secs..anyhow sports auto mag must have not driven it right..thats all
Am I missing something how can it take the vette 1.5sec to touch 100 from 80...thats stupid, must be a typo...0-100kmph in 4.2sec means 0-60 in 4.1 which it is..but 5.2
Also in every respect the 911s beat the vette..so is that so? also their ring time was really crappy since the C5 did it in 8:15 or 8:18 i believe..

Yeah all their acceleration times are way off....
0-60 MPH in 5.2 sec is basically a full second behind what the Corvette Team and the U.S mags has done.....
0-100 MPH in 10.9 sec is way behind the 9.6 to 9.9 range from the U.S magazines.....
Come on, guys, is it so hard to see through what's going on here? These guys are saying "Zees kar ees note bed for being un Emeriken, but zee new 911 Carrera S eez a leetle beet better kar." My grandma could get better C6 test times than these kraut-sucking ***** did.
Nice pics, though. Funny how SO Euro the C6 really looks with just a wide license plate, headlight washers and side signals.

Those times looks to me like they had too much wheelspin at launch......
The 05 C6 Z51 has been on this list for a year now at 7:59. I figured GM "management" like Dave Hill never drove the car so the driver is an error, but who knows if the time is right? GM did a lot of benchmarking and tweaking at Nurburgring.

If you look at the previous posts Dave Hill said that 7:59 is for the 06 C6 not the 05 C6......

How? That 7:59 number was posted last July, before the 05's were even released. How could that 7:59 be from an 06 model? Did they have the 06 completely done and ready for production before the release of the 05? Someone has their stories mixed up.

For me and many people here it is the first time that i see the 7:59 time...
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
