I was driving back from Denver to KC in last week's heat wave (outside temperature was 106 degrees) and the gas gauge started jumping all the way to 0 from wherever the fuel level was at the time. This persisted all the way into KC. It would work fine then jump to 0 for quite a while sometimes 20-30 minutes. DIC would flash "service fuel system" when gauge went to 0. Any comments or similar problems from anyone? The car is going to the dealer or a look-see Monday 8/1. The problem has not returned in driving around the city this week. Could this be a product of the hot weather?

Nope, as a first time GM owner, I'm sorry to say that the gas gauge issue is not new to the C6, the C5 folks had the problem also. Apparently up until recently they would just install another faulty part and send you on your way. According to folks on this Forum, they have a new and improved part which will fix all of our gas gauge problems. I'm waiting on the part from my dealer and for the Corvette tech to return from vacation, then mine will get fixed(I hope). Hey, what do you expect it was only 50-55,000 dollars(coupe). -- Good luck-- Ed
Your dealer will know all about it. It is a well know issue with a lot of us. They will replace the sender card in the left tank. Mine took about 4 hours.
Just got mine fixed today, it's a known problem. Make sure the dealer orders the "new" part, per the service bulletin information. Mine's working fine again today!
Ok just got mine fixed. Manual (mine) is a fairly easy fix, pull the wheels, fender liners, skid pans and fuel tanks. Replace senders (yes, left one failed but dealer replaced both as they both have the same defect) replace tanks and go. No gas was lost in the process. For the automatic you need to add "Drop whole rear end" to the beginning and replace rear end and align to the end of the process. My dealer was great and replaced both senders as well as the fuel pump (new version). Took a few days due to parts and a problem reassembling the crossover pipe. All in all, they did more than they needed to and covered the rental car as well (a nice Cadillac CTS)
