All day today I have needed the navigation system and only the emergency square was high-lighted. I did poke at it until the system let me get to the "input address" screen but it kept cutting me off before I could type in the street address. Besides all this, has anyone just for fun entered a destination for which you already knew and this Nav takes the long way AROUND. Was this Nav DVD copied from Mapquest?
I find it pretty user "unfriendly" as well. And I just don't use it enough to learn all the nuances. I find it's best use is to find a restaurant or something that is in the system. I find it very difficult just do make very basic changes (like how to turn "Nav" off, or take it out of "Guidance" mode). Of course, I have free on-star for a year, I suppose I could ring them up when I want to know how to program the Nav
Sounds like you were moving while trying to input an address. As for "the long way around", you can program it to use only major roads or to include secondary roads. Maybe widening it's parameters will get you better results.
You just have to play with it awhile and it will all make sense. I suggest when you make some drives to known places, that you type in the address and act like you've never been there and see how good this thing really is. It's not perfect, but it does pretty good.
Vettnutt, you're right I was moving - if only I could read huh?
As far as " Widening Parameters" I don't know what you mean?
You can limit the route it plots by telling it to only use primary roads. By allowing it to include smaller, secondary roads, more route options will appear. You can then choose which of those routes you'd like it to take.
I noticed this too. I knew a route and cut off 10 minutes by taking what I knew. It finally caught on what route I was taking half way there and after telling me to turn around 10 times. Overall though it is good. I had to take a detour off a beaten path one time and she got me home a different way. No matter what I still am glad I got the option.
Please don't misunderstand me - I am glad this was an available option and a good one at that. I just realized I don't know as much as I should about this system and apologize for the misuse of this site for the mere reason I did not read the manual thoroughly.
Took some getting used to. I finally spent some time with the manual and after putting in some seat time I have found the system generally quite effective. I would really miss it if it got taken away.
I find the interaction with the HUD is excellent.
Of course if I lived in an area for which it had a poor data base I might feel differently.
But I don't so I love the thing. If it doesn't work well in your neck of the woods don't sell the car....sell your house and move.

I love this feature took sometime getting use too but it is great. I figured out you need to be parked for it to operate properly. Good luck
The maps are provided by support.na@teleatlas.com. There are errors and they would be happy for you to contact them with corrections.
skipdale,
Unless I did something wrong it appears that Teleatlas makes maps for many car navigation systems but not GM or Chevy. I checked out their website and could not find GM or Chevy listed as a supported product.
Is there a way to get my hands on a manual in advance of picking up my 2006. I know it would be better to have the Nav in front of me when I read it, but surely a little advance familiarity would help.

I wonder why you couldnt have the dealership order an extra manual and the CD that comes with the system
