If you want nav, order the factory system. You are already spending 50 grand for the car and saving the $1k as some have reported is penny wise and pound foolish... The factory nav looks a lot better than an aftermarket sitting on top of the dash. The factory nav integrates with the HUD. The factory nav uses the factory audio system for voice feedback. The factory nav has voice command built in to the system with the mic cleanly mounted in the drivers "A" pillar. The factory nav has a lot less chance of being stolen than a unit that sits on top of the dash (or at least does't have to be removed each time you park the car so it won't get stolen). And the factory nav will be under the factory warranty and extended warranty if you purchase the GM extended warranty. I do not know the cost of the updates, but I would guess that they will be somewhere between $200 - $300 when released (maybe a little more than the updates for the aftermarket units, but I am not sure).
I am sure glad I ordered the factory nav... I have an Acura MDX with the nav and love it as well (The Acura system is a little better than the GM system). I personally would not buy another car without it if it was a factory option...
Go for the Nav. with the vehicle....Built in does look better, and the resturant we wound up at was probably better anyway....(a half-mile walk is healthy).....
Highy recommended! Easy to use after working with it a little. Nothing wows a chick more than a talking car, and looking up restaurants at eat at. It gives you the option to pick from 3 different ways to get to your destination - sweet!
I love the Nav in my C6...all Nav's are complicated until you use them and then everything changes...as the one post said it's the only Nav that puts the data in a heads up mode....fantastic when your on the highway because you never take your eyes off the road. Even has a bar that counts down the tenths of miles to your turn. We have an Acura and the Nav is great also but no heads up display.....I also agree with the post that it makes the center console look so much better...just love the vette symbol on the display.
The vehicle has to be going below a certain speed (nearly stopped) in order to make certain entries on the touch screen that obviously require diverting attention from driving. Moving between modes and other aspects can be done while driving.
I have a nav system in my Lexus that convinced me to order one in the vette even though there are some differences. Still haven't got the vette (TPW 8/8) so I don't know yet the extent of the differences between the two systems.
Worth every penny! Vettes with Nav also look 10x better on interior console..It works /Looks GREAT............V
One of the main factors for me! Very look to it! Plus I have been saved by it a couple of times. Being able to plug a resturant name into it is cool!
Example: I was in a HUGE shopping entertainment center and trying to find a resturant that had changed names recently. I plugged in the name and it took me right to it, I found out they had changed names a week before. I had went by the place twice! ugghh" LOL
#2 I was at my brother in laws in San Diego, wanted to find a Starbucks. Slapped in Starbucks and it gave me the 2 closest ones. I jetted right over to it!
C6's dash looks dull without the factory NAV. Works great, just took me a while to learn how to use it! Plus the Vette symbol on the screen looks cool with the NAV off

Me too. I have one in my Lexus and would not buy another car without it. I don't look up restaurants, etc. but it is incredibly valuable in bypassing accidents, etc. I will use the Vette once in awhile on a sales call and in doing so, I never feel that I am lost. I've had times where I didn't have the slightest idea where I was, but the security blanket of the Nav kept me from ever getting worried.
I don't have my C6 yet, but on the Lexus, you can press an emergency button and get to the nearest hospital or police station. And once I had to use it on a trip to find a station when getting low on gas---and it even told me what brand of gas it was.
From my perspective, a NAV system is worth it in any car.
I ordered it mostly because I didn't want to risk regretting not ordering it later on. (When I ordered, I didn't know much at all about its features or how it worked.) I've only had my car for four weeks and as such am not yet completely fluent in the nav system's operation and features but from what I've seen so far, it's great. The thing is LOADED with features, looks very cool, and works beautifully. Integration with the HUD is far more valuable than I would have thought.
The factory nav system has certainly gotten its fair share of criticism here and frankly, I don't understand it. I like it a lot and am very glad that I ordered it. YMMV.
Thanks everybody for the input on the Nav System. I'm going to order it even if I don't really need it.
It sounds like a great toy and its pretty.
Jruss
I think the dash looks better with the NAV. Again when people complain about the cheap interior, I think the NAV increases the look. I also think in the future it will help resale as a few years from now most cars will have it and some used car buyers may be looking for it. With that said, the NAV in the C6 is outdated and is slightly frustrating. But used it last weekend on my way east on Long Island. It worked well. I like the touch screen for the radio.
$1695 for Nav is not bad. Just check what some of the other auto makers charge for Nav, usually around $2k.
I don't care for the "TV/FISH FINDER" look either on the after market NAV units..... just my 2 cents worth also.
Actually, I have to dissagree with you on the price. The reason it is $300 cheaper than other cars is that the Corvette is the only one that losses significant functions (six disc changer and MP3) when you order nav. I'd gladly pay the 300 more to keep the six disc changer and MP3 with the Nav.
By the way, I have now had C6's with and without. I also dissagree with those who say the dash looks better with Nav. It only looks better with the nav turned on. With it off, or in radio display, I prefer the non-Nav stereo and look. This is obviously subjective, but that's how I feel.
