I've experienced the dreaded fual sensor problem three times. All were half way through 100 mile trips with the tank about half full. The fuel gauge went to empty and then jumped back on and off. It has never happened during my daily driving. Most of my driving is within 20 miles of home. I have 4,000 miles on the car.
My question is... Must the card be changed? Can I just live with it (to avoid the dealer hassle) without added damage to the car?
Earlier posts have pointed to some sensitivity to brands of gasoline. If you did not experience the problem in daily driving and it showed up on a trip, then a change in your ordinary gasoline may have caused it (if you routinely use the same gasoline at home). If so, then returning to your normal gasoline could solve the problem. If not, then....hmmm.

As withi my C5... I stayed away from BP gas... it has higher sulphur content (just my experience)... after I stopped using that in my C5, I never had the issue again... now I only use Shell, Citgo... havent had the issue on the C6...
It's not fuel related. Check out the FAQ section. It will only get worse. The same thing happened to me. I waited until the new and revised card was available and then had it replaced. It took about 4 or 5 hours and I have not had a problem since. Good luck.
Problem with leaving it be is that the check engine light gets triggered by the fuel send unit issue - I would worry if you had "other" issues which were serious enough to trigger check engine light but you ignored them as you thought the light was due to fuel send unit. If you can find a dealer that has done a few of the units on C6 already you shouldnt have any troubles at all. By now most dealers should know how to swap the cards without causing collateral damage. I guess you could ask them to have the check engine light not trigger on faulty fuel send unit but I doubt they will agree to it for warranty issues.

Hey Tracy,
BP gas must be getting better. That's my normal brand and I haven't had any problems with it. Take care,
David
