I can't answer that. But it sure reminds me of my high school days
p.s. I can't imagine why it would not work, but I would only do it in an emergency (i.e. if I were 100 miles from nowhere). You would need to have the ignition on for a few seconds before you dumped the clutch in order to let the fuel pump build pressure.
Can the manual C6 be started while being pushed in second gear (or 3rd) by engaging the clutch and the gas pedal ?
The battery would have to be up so it could power the computers which control spark and fuel injection, run the fuel pump, etc. And you'd have to disconnect the starter cable so the computer couldn't crank the engine normally when the run switch was pressed. Then there is the question of how you would push the car without damaging the rear fascia. But if you resolved all those issues, I think it would roll start.
I had my push started at the tint place. They did the tint and said they didnt take the car out of R,but they had to because the battery was done when I tried to start it.We ended up push starting it,which worked fine but the battery would be dead within 3 hours of sitting every time till I took it to the dealer where they replaced the battery and has been fine since.
I know because I accidentally turned the key off while attempting a power shift from 2nd to 3rd. (Talk about missing a gear!) Once I figured out what had happened, I turned the key back on, put it in 4th and let the clutch out. I was doing probably 40. The engine caught and I continued on as if nothing had happened.
I would be concerned about the steering wheel lock. If it is locked due to a dead battery, seem's like it would be locked while you were pushing it. What do you think?
Thanks for your feedback, I know the Corvette team is trying to give us the latest and greatest from the gizmo world, but I think simpler is better. In my Stingray, I don't have to worry about any of the stuff mentioned by Shopdog in his post, when it goes dead, I push it (driver side A pillar), jump inside put in 2nd gear and voila, it's like magic.
I don't do push starts anymore, and I don't think the manufacturers really expect you to try starting the car by pushing...they expect you to use a jumper battery. You have to consider how far down the battery is discharged; if the battery has been run down completely, say by leaving the headlights on, you will not be able to start the car by pushing...it is simply impossible to get any power through the battery...it's like a electrical black hole.
While not true on the LS2, many modern cars have timing chain tensioners that are driven by engine oil pressure. Attempting to start these cars by pushing can result in the timing chain jumping a tooth (no pressure until the engine fires). Trust me, finding the cause for your engine running hot in those circumstances is not easy...usually takes another such start, another jumped tooth, until the engine simply will not run anymore.

The only way that could be the fault is if it was never put in reverse upon shutdown. After the shutdown and it's in reverse, you can take it out of reverse with no effect...
