Default Tire Pressure Sensor Accuracy?

So I go in for fuel today and put some air in my tires. The car said I had 28 in the front and 29 in the rear, so I put the air gun on them (which says they are already at 30, but I know they arent known for accuracy) and put them up to 31 or 32 according to the gun. My sensors still say 28 in the front and 1 of the rears says 29 and one says 30. I pulled out one of those pen style pressure testers and it says i have 30-31 in each wheel.

Are these things inaccurate?

I can tell you that I tested mine with a calibrated gauge (NIST traceable) when i first go the car and it was right on to the nearest 1 PSI. After that I have checked a couple of time and the DIC was still right on.

Mine is always spot on with a calibrated gauge when cold, will vary by up to 2psi when really warmed up. Don't know why the heated temp would be off so much (it is always higher than the gauge reading using two different calibrated gauges) but I only really care when cold.

Mine are right on the same readings I get with a digital pressure gauge.

The tire sensors are quite accurate, but you have to drive the car over 20 MPH to get an immediate updated reading on the DIC. If the car is just sitting, the sensors only update about once every 10 minutes.

Default I use a Accugauge round dial type with air release valve

I find a two pound difference between the DIC and my Accutire guage. The DIC is 2 lbs. lower than what the Guage indicates so if the guage is 32 then on the DIC will be 30. I go by the guage PSI.

I had very close accuracy at sea level but the sensor was low by 3# when measuered at 6000ft altitude. I tried several hand gauges but the sensor always read lower them the hand gauges.

Mine are always spot on. I use an analog dial tire gauge to check.

Default need help with wheel sensors

Hey all
Newbie here, if I get after market wheels for my 1998 coupe, will the wheel sensors work on the new after market wheels since they just screw on the valve stems. Please help.

The wheels have to be designed to accept the sensors. Some aren't, the valve stem hole may be located wrong, or there may not be a flat machined on the inside for the sensor body to bear against. If the wheel isn't made for sensors, you'd have to install a regular valve stem, and fasten the sensor inside separately with a steel band.

Actually, this makes sense. Most guages measure relative pressure - the difference between measured and ambient pressures. The in-wheel sensors don't have an ambient reference, they measure absolute pressure. So (assuming both are perfectly accurate) they would read the same at sea level, and about one pound different per 1800 feet of altitude.

The actual barometric formula used to calculate pressure drop is more complex, but this is close enough for any altitude that you're likely to be driving at.

I talked to the after market rim place and they said the sensor should fit fine, they said they just screw on to the new rims valve stems because they are replicas of the real rims. Any feedback?

The most repeatable gauge is one that uses a Burdon tube for its movement. It does need to be set right thou.

I have the same Gauge and get the same results. DIC is -2lbs.

Default Can't use mine

I have a 1997 and I just purchased chrome 06 style rims at Carlisle. I went to get them installed todat....not! The rib on the tire blocks the are from entering the tire.

Question can I use the belt tupe of sensor?
